My samoyed aged 6 months has recently started waking us up at 5.30 in the morning and I have to say this is 1 and a half hours before we feel remotely human! She sleeps in the kitchen but has been o.k up till now. Does anybody out there know a solution - we're a very tired family at the moment.

We'd rather not have her in our bedroom, and hopefully this would not be the only way.

Thanks for any help you can give us

Paula.

Don't mean to be unkind but try ear plugs, as long as you are sure she is well then the worst thing you can do is go to her when she demands it, as the mornings get lighter she will ask to get up earlier. Sorry JH

If it has only started recently i.e. in the last couple of weeks, then she could be getting disturbed. January is mating time for foxes and they can scream nice and loudly for a mate. I know my lot react to this and I just shout from my bed and tell them to shut up!

Or maybe the milkman or postman is arriving earlier. If it were my dog, I would try a cross - "BE QUIET", as Bec suggested. Might be worth taking the kettle and tea stuff to bed with you, so if you are going to be awake, you can at least have a cuppa without giving her the satisfaction of your presence!

Why not set a radio to go off at the time the dog starts.
if it is a noise that starts him off it may take his mind off it.

I read somewhere about using a baby monitor to talk to the dog. Has anyone tried this?

Yes, we used a baby monitor successfully with our rescue collie cross to help him settle at night. The only problem was I sometimes woke my husband up when I was talking to the dog!!
