Would there be any interest in having an additional board for lost/stolen/missing dogs - there would probably be at least 3 or 4 a day?

Due to lack of response I gather the answer to the question was no?

Hi Christine.

I think that people already have the option to mention missing dogs in the General Forum.

I personally, feel that if requests for Help are mentioned in a General Forum then more people are likely to read them :-)

New idea's are always welcome though.

Christine

One of the initial major criticisms of this new board was the large number of different categories. I am yet to be convinced that the current balance is correct and I am thinking of reducing the total number of boards.

It could however be a good idea to have a seperate board for missing dogs. The major downside of a seperate forum is likely to be ,as Leigh has already said, that posts in the General Forum would get more exposure.

You never know until you try, so I have added one for a trial period.

Thanks Mark,

I will add some of our dogs onto it and see if it helps find any of them

Hi Christine.

Quick question, can you give me a bit of background about "Lost Dogs UK" ?

It isn't one that I have come across before. If it is any good, I will add it to my list of contacts if you can supply me with details :-)

Thanx.

Hi Leigh,

A few years ago a friend had a couple of wolfhound puppies stolen and another friend, Sally, and I tried to help her find them and publicise the theft (they were recovered).

At this time we could find no lists of the web for lost/stolen dogs and so decided to set up our own - persuaded our ISP to give us free space on the business section of their site and it went from there. (Subsequently we found Petsearch but at the time were looking specifically for dogs and did not think to look under pets)

We believe we were the first dedicated lost dog site and have kept it free of charge and totally uncommercial. Sally deals with the text and therefore does most of the work and I do the photos. Most magazines etc don't mention us because we have no commercial links - they like to be paid we found! We did get Our Dogs and Dog World and a lot of the breed note writers to mention us when we first set up but now we link with many dog wardens, Lurcher Search, PetsearchUk, Pet Dectectives etc etc

Take a look at
http://www.pavilion.co.uk/lostdogsuk/
and let me know what you think - it is maybe not as user friendly as many of the sites around because of the lack of an internal search engine but I have not found one (free) that I can get to work reliably yet and so we stick with the lists.

Hi Christine.

Had a quick look and its a good site . No frills, just clean cut and to the point.

Didn't see a link to Champdogs though ;-)

I will log the details for future reference.

Hi Leigh,

The link to Champdogs is now there (has been for a while I just forgot to say) and each time we put a new dog up we tell the owners that their dog is also being put up here
