Hi
We have a 6 yo Golden Retriever dog. Last year we took him to our local village show. There was a mixture of breeds there, as at most small shows, but Everyone was talking about our dog! They thought he was lovely etc - The judge A retriever breeder, who also shows them, really liked him and placed him first (She was very helpful too as neither myself or my dad knew what we were doing!!!) Another lady who breeds and shows Burnese was there and said that he was a lovely example and that we should show him etc, etc. HOWEVER... he only has one testicle, we told her this and she said he would be ok at the smaller shows, but he would be marked down at larger shows. Is this correct? We would like to show him a few times this year at local shows - would the fact that he only has one testicle affect him at local level? Obviously it is not vital that we show the dog - we just do it as a bit of fun and as so many people seemed to like him it would be nice to do it again!!
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
Sally. :-)

Your dog should have two but I think you can still enjoy showing your dog after all winning high awards is not the important thing, enjoying a day out is. I am more worried about his health, have you sort the vets advice about his retained testicle, if not I think you should. Of course if he has had it removed then you have no need to worry. Show and Enjoy Jackie H

Hi Jackie,
Thanks for your reply. No he has not had the testicle removed, therefore it is obviously retained. Is there a cause for concern? We haven't sought the advice of a vet. Please can you give me more info on retained testicles?
Many Thanks
Sally

Hi again
Have just looked on a search engine and found that retained testicles have a high risk of becoming cancerous. This is very worrying. I think we will have to pay a visit to the vets. Thanks for alerting me to this problem - How can I be so ignorant? Its just never been an issue.
Thanks again
Sally.
