Quick question...

If a schedule says 'Entries close: Friday 15th March 2002 (postmark)', does this mean that the entry would have to be recieved before the 15th March, or that the entry can be posted on the 15th March, as the postmark would say 15th March?

Haven't explained myself very well there but I'm sure someone will know what I mean lol.

Thanks yet again,
Naomi

Edited, so no longer a quick question...

If you entered a puppy in A.V. Minor puppy bitch and A.V. puppy bitch and you won the first class (A.V. minor puppy bitch), could you then pull out of the second class in order to enable the puppy to go into the best puppy in show ring? If you didn't withdraw from the second class and you then lost in it, would you no longer be eligable to enter for 'best puppy in show' as your no longer undefeated.

Now try to work that out..............

Hi Naomi

It means that the 15th March is the last day you can post your entry. If I post my entries on the last day I always get a proof of posting form from the Post Office because the Kennel Club only accept that as proof in case your entry does not arrive.

Thanks Dazzle,
It also says that entries must be pre-paid, is a cheque considered to be 'pre-paid' if it hasn't had a chance to clear?

all dead right - re the withdrawing from class if you have won a class -- you can withdraw to remain undefeated.

As for posting - it is the date you put it in the post box that matters - unless it's a big/champ show you can often get away with a late entry - just ring the secretary first. Proof of posting is a good idea tho or so that there's no problems when you get to the show - send an sae with your entry for proof of receipt.

If it is a show judged on the group system I think you must be declaired BPIB or BPAVNSC to go forward to group and must do all classes you have entered in breed or AVNSC and take part in the challenge. In shows not judged in the group system I'm not sure, I have always understood that you must complete breed classes including the challange, but if you have entered say Post Grad in AV Gundog and are placed but are unbeaten by another puppy, even if you only managed a VHC you are able to enter Best Puppy in Show. Hope thats clear, bet it's not. Put your puppy in the classes you have entered, if it catches the judges eye it will win it classes if not try again another time the experiance will do it good. Even if you are beaten by another dog provided it is not a puppy, you can enter the challenge in order to try for best puppy. Jackie H.

I'm sorry Pammy, that is not correct. You cannot withdraw from a second class within the breed to remain unbeaten, you must carry on with all the classes you have entered for in the breed. If you win best puppy in breed, or best in breed, you may withdraw from subsequent competition (ie stakes classes or variety classes) to challenge for best puppy in show or best in show.

If you enter say AV Puppy stakes and win and you were also entered in say AV handled by a lady, you can withdraw from the Av Handled by lady but if you are entered in AV Hound Puppy & AV Hound Junior I think you have to complete both. If a group of classes have at the end a chalenge for (in this case) Best AV Hound & Best AV Hound Puppy you must do all the classes entered.
Having said that most of these complecations happen at Open Shows and it is better to carry on and show in all the classes you have entered. I have withdrawn from classes and waited all day with a tired puppy only to find that the best in show judge is not even sure what breed you have. Of course if you have one of the more popular breeds it may be worth wasting your entry money and withdrawing but I would rather give my baby the experiance of the classes entered.

Sorry about my spelling, my husband is away so I can't yell 'how do you spell.............. ' Jackie H

Hi Naomi

The only time you can go through to the group from AV Minor Puppy or AV Puppy is if there are no Puppy classes scheduled for your breed. It is perfectly possible for two puppies of the same breed to be present in the group if a puppy has been entered in a breed class and declared BPIB and a puppy has been entered in an AV puppy class and won that. Unfortunately a lot of show secretarys are not aware of this rule, but I have had reason to check this out, having had this situation arise at a show where I am secretary, and this is their ruling. Even if AVNSC classes are available this is still the rule.

It is worth bearing in mind that you are entitled to compete if you think it is correct and it is not the Show Secretary powers to refuse, it has to be left to the KC to withdraw an award, if you have entered incorrectly.

If you have entered both classes you must go into both classes or you are deemed to have been beaten.

If you are beaten in either of the classes yes you are correct you will be a beaten dog.

Answer to your second question yes a cheque is considered to be a pre-paid entry even if it is not presented before the day of the show.
