Sadly 4 weeks ago we finally had to make the hardest decision of our lives and have our old boy Councillor put to sleep after a stroke robbed him of his legs. It was hard as not only was he the first born of our first litter of irish setters, but also as he was the first dog my dad could trully call His dog. It's taken my dad a while to be able to put pen to paper, but he has now come up with an Ode to Councillor.
I know you are near,
I can still feel you here,
I sit in my chair
and know you are there
I lay on the bed,
feel your chin on my head.
You made us laugh
You made us cry
You were such fun
You made time fly
You were so special
right from the start
You've left such a hole
here in our hearts
Play with your sister
Run with your mum
All I can say is........
We miss you Son.
Vernon Rubio
Rest in peace Bear, look after Micky for me, we will all meet again on the other side.

Just realised he was Mac's son. He must have been a gorgeus dog if anything like his dad, bless him.

Yes he was Mac's son, though he never had the nutty streak mac had (thank goodness!) He was 13 and a half, so getting on a bit for an irish setter! Never a days illness till the last year when he developed a heart murmur and arthritis. We thought we were going to lose him last christmas as he went off his legs a bit then, but he managed to hang on to see my daughter Phoebe when she was born so we've got photo's of them together which is lovely. The week leading up to the stroke he was actually playing with Phoebe (who's already 6 months!) on the carpet in the front room, so we've also got our memories of that. The house just feels so empty without him, he didn't do a lot but you always knew he was there. We're just picturing him meeting up with Mischa, who adored him (the only dog she ever liked!) and his mum Cassie who we lost to spleen cancer when she was 8 and his sister Devon who we last at 6 due to auto-immune. I'm sure they're having a whale of a time playing together again, though i expect the girls still tiptoe around mischa!!!
I'll pass on your condolences to my dad,
Erin
Sorry to hear of your loss.
