He sits to the side, out of the way
While others beg head rubs, or force you to play.
His dark liquid eyes watch your every move
Hoping and waiting, his love to prove.
He was shown many times, a promising pup
And he just got better as he grew up.
A picture of health, robust and strong,
His gait and topline, never went wrong.
But his prime has passed, and he seems to know,
That he'll never again be put in a show.
He eats, sleeps, not much more than that,
And maybe he's getting a little too fat.
He loves to be brushed, when you have the time,
He waits his turn at the end of the line.
You think of him, sure, but not nearly as much
As those promising pups, that new special and such.
So he sits and he waits, till you have time,
To make the same fuss as you did in his prime.
A scrap of affection, or playful shove,
To him it means everything, to him it means LOVE!!

This moved me !!!! Give your oldies an extra special hug today

This poem was taken from this web site David the Dogman which has some great poems and info on it. The breeder of the pup I'm getting recommended it to me.

Sara

Did you have to, I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face!

My Ch. boy is 7 now and is entered in his first Veteran Class at Crufts, and this makes me so sad, he is still the most beautiful boy in the world to me but I know he is past his prime. Every show morning when I get the showbag out and the others are put in the car, his eyes tell me that he so much wants to go. I feel so guilty.

I have just waved goodbye to my last puppy to go, and came on here to be cheered up and whammy you hit me with this.

Mind it is a lovely poem

That is so sad!

Our family Boarder Collie Tubbs is now almost 15 years old and he is loved so very much by all of us. He lives with Mum in Northampton and there is not a day that passes that I wont go and see him of think of him.

He has not been all that well lately and we worry everyday.

So as I could not see him today my Boader Collie Molly got loads of huges today much to her annoyance! (soz about the spelling!)

Maybe we should send this to the breeder my friend got her dog from (no names no blame), who had been shown and won, got past her breeding age and the breeder just got rid of her. Luckily someone heard this was happening and contacted my friend who was looking for a dog of this breed. It's such a shame, she is a lovely looking dog, but so nervous.
