We have friends who once a year light a candle for the ones they have loved and lost. they go into there gardens or where ever they can see the sky. light the candles and say to the lost ones how much they love them and miss them and that they will always be in thier hearts.
They have done this all over the world and I think its a wonderful idea.
We could pick a night and organise this to be done for our lost ones.
Please let me know what you think

I think its a lovely idea. Whether its people or animals it does no harm to remember. When ever I light a candle in my house, which is often, its not specifically for any one person or animal but it just reminds me of those gone and those that might go sometime. I'd like to think someone would do that for me someday.

What a lovely idea. I have a candle lit at home tonight for my beloved Jeffrey who I lost just before Christmas as it is his birthday today. The candle is right beside a photo I have of him. If you do decide on a night to do this please let me know when it will be.

I always have a few flowers beside pictures of my mum & dad & oh's mum & dad - order Easter lilies in their name for church on Easter Sunday. We're going to put a garden seat down beside Purdey, so I think we'll sit there in summer evenings, enjoying a glass of wine (& being bit to hell by the mozzies :D) - and I think we'll light one of our garden flares for all our dogs & cats that are long gone.
In certain parts of the country, people would leave a burn a light so that those lost could find their way home......

Treat every stressful situation as a dog would. Pee on it and walk away
I put flowers by pictures of my mum & dad as well. I like the idea of candles for our lovely pets as well.
It amazing how many do this wonderful and simple thing to show they care. When I was a kid my grandma left a light in the frontroom window to guide the lost ones home, I think it was the 1st night of spring (new life) and the 1st night of winter.
I will find out when they others do thier one and try and coordinate ours
Thanks for the lovely feedback

Terry. Yesterday the old lady who lives over the road from me died. I spoke to her on the phone at 10.15 as she had called the ambulance at 4.30 in the morning after falling out of bed. I called her at 1015 and was really shocked to hear that she had died at approx 10.50. Anyway the point of this post is:- Last night I left my front outside light on for her. She used to say to me how nice the house looked when it was lit up. I know it might seem odd to some but it was my way of letting her know that I was thinking of her.
Nothing odd about it Molly, We are so scared these days to show people we care. On all souls night the graveyard beside where we live is lit up with dancing candlelight for those gone before us. I think that is was wonderful that you thought of the old lady and left a light on. She can go in peace and will know that you cared

I also light a candle on the anniversaries of the loss of my lovely girls (and little man) now past. I also have posted tributes to all of them on gonetodogstar, have any of you seen this site?
