I am sure that some dogs eat grass simply because they like it! Especially the new juicy growth.

Banya definitely only eats grass if she has an upset stomach and then she will go outside and graze very carefully. She never does it at any other time.

My Spanish just enjoy the taste I think.  They would never have doggy chocolates as they don't seem to like it, but grass :d
My dogs aren't my whole life, but my life wouldn't be whole without them. 05/01/08 11 stone 12 lbs

Mine always eat grass from a particular place in the field - it must be extra nice and juicy :-)

Mine eat grass all year round. They're especially fond of young winter wheat! The only problem they have with it is when it comes out the other end!

My mother's dog never ate grass until we stayed with them and he saw mine grazing. He did it every day after that!

My Staffs are constantly grazing out on walks....it's like taking a herd of cows out sometimes! :-)  They especially like the young, long shoots - must be extra tasty and juicy and I'm sure it's just because they like the taste.

Have watched for many years dawgs eating grass for different reasons and in different places.  From my experience, sometimes they eat grass because they need to get something out of their system/throw up...However, there are also times when they clearly need something from a particular grass to supplement their diet.

My dogs always used to munch on grass, mostly i think coz they liked the taste and perhaps they were supplementing their diet which didnt have enough greens in it??

I then started adding liquid chlorophyll to their drinking water and they havnt touched grass since,so obviously they were seeking out something that wasnt in their diet at home.

Dogs who have an upset stomach will automatically eat grass they will choose which piece to eat once eaten you will then find your dog bringing back up the grass and bile and what ever else upset his stomach cats do exactly the same, grass to a dog and cat is a form of self help medicine it will not harm your dog or cat at all jen

My dogs never threw up after eating grass. There are alot of assumptions on why dogs do this, but no-one knows for sure :-)
By hairypooch (****) [gb] Date 26.02.05 14:39 GMT
If my breed could live on grass, they would, including mud, stones, rocks, I do stop the eating of stones and rocks, But they suffer no adverse effects from it and are the only dogs that I've had that don't throw up afterwards and like other's dogs, they love the new, young grass in spring. :-)
Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful!

My BT constantly chomps grass and enjoys it.  I do not enjoy pulling the results from the other end!  I think they just eat it cos they love it!
