Hello All,

I'm hoping someone can help me.

Our beloved, big & beautiful, long haired GSD died last year and now we're about ready to look for another. Can anyone advise me of a reputable breeder of long haired GSDs that are big boned, straight backed, happy and healthy? I would be particularly interested in a silver sable, but info on any large, lovely, long haired's would be welcomed. From the sites I have found on the internet, it would seem that our dog was similar to the Shiloh or King shepherds, but I understand there are no breeders of these dogs in the UK - unless anyone here knows different. (NB I know there are breeders in Europe but under no circumstances would I consider putting a pup in the 6 months quarantine required).

We're not looking for a pup immediately but have some time off soon and would like to visit any breeders that are recommended. We will offer a loving home with great beaches and cliff walks nearby and can provide references from our vet.

I know someone who breeds what you call silver sables however she does not health test any of her dogs & her last litter was out of an epileptic bitch. Sadly some people who breed non standard colour & coated GSDs do not do ant tests either & some even claim that their vet has told them their dogs don't have HD without X raying. They breed only for money. There are people who do charge more for non standard colour & coated GSDs as they claim they are rare & henxe more valuable which they are not.

When you do find a breeder please make sure that both sire & dam are Hip Scored & under the breed average/median & that the sire has also been tested for Haemophillia, if either or both parents have not been tested & have the relevant paperwoek to prove it Please Please do not buy a puppy from them.

Have you thought about a rescue ? Our rescue always has lots of "white"long & correct coated GSDs in & most GSD rescues are the same

Hi

If you visit the website of The White & Long Coat GSD Society at www.walcss.co.uk(not sure how to do a link), you will find links to breeders who may be able to help you.

Also have you looked at the breeders list here on Champdogs, there are quite a few breeders of GSD's that breed what you are looking for.

Krys,

Thanks for the info.

I had seen the WALCSS website and I've also gone through all of the breeders on Champdogs ( I do wish they would list Long Haired separately!). It's just that it's so difficult to judge what breeders are really like from a website that I guess what I was really after was a personal recommendation - Just to narrow things down and select some to visit.

Hi Jill,

I'm getting lots of replies and I'd be happy to gather up all the info and forward it on to you.

Probably best I wait a bit longer and see what else turns up, but I'll be in touch soon.

I'm having a really hard time getting this to work, but this is my first time in any internet chat scenario, so please bear with me. I think I may be replying to my own 'post' but I can't find any other way to do this.

Someone called Harry sent me a reply and I can't seem to find the message now. Harry, thanks for the reply, I'm not ready for a pup right now, but can you re-send your details so we can make contact soon.

Apologies if I'm replying to the wrong person. Until I tried this I had no idea I was so technically inept!

Hi Juno,
Harry's post was removed because it was an advertisement, and adverts aren't allowed on the Forum. If he wants to contact you it'll have to be done privately.

Moonmaiden, would you mind emailing me with information about the breeder you mentioned? I am looking for a silver sable german shepherd and I want to make sure that the breeders I have contacted does not include the breeder that you have mentioned. I actually had one breeder I contacted mention that there was a breeder producing from an unsuitable female, but they would not mention anymore and were reluctant to go into detail. I would appreciate the information, and can assure you it would go no further.

Hi,

I don't think we're allowed to give specific details on the Forum so I've sent you a private message.

Hi juno
Is it possible that you could also send me any information you have received as my family have desperately trying to find a silver sable GSD breeder and I would greatly appreciate any information you could provide me with.
Thank you
