I've noticed that many of you talk about pet insurance. How does it work over there. Can breeders have it too? And does anyone know about it offered in the States? I saw an add in Martha Stewart magazine and as it's late at night I can't call and find out about it. Tomorrow's Sunday so that won't work either. Just can't seem to wait to find out if it's a "good thing" or not for a breeder. Thanks!

Yes you can get insurance for most things if you are prepared to pay the premium, and I would be suprised if you can't do so in the States. Perhaps it is not so widespread over there or may be too expencive to be worth while. Over here, UK, we have a sort of coverall insurance for dog owners that covers most things except welping and the sort of third party clame you would get from selling puppies but you can add that or take out seperate insurance. It is usual to receive 12 weeks free insurance when you buy a puppy, in the hope that you carry it on for the rest of the dog life. Jackie H

Should just say the packages offered do differ a good deal so a lot of reserch is needed.

Hello,
I have pet insurance through Pet Care. I live in Canada but they also have US coverage. I highly reccomend this company, my Goldie just had shoulder surgery (OCD) and in the end it only cost me $50.00 because her policy covered everything. Good luck with your research.

I am from Canada but now live in the UK - I am thrilled with the idea of pet insurance. I think there are some companies who offer it over there now, but it isn't common. My vet said that PetPlan was tried in the States and it went bust:(

I do believe that there is breeder insurance you can get.

It's probably a question of hunting it up - I'm sure it's there, but is the price accessible enough.

Wendy
