Ted
I dont believe I actually said ALL anti hunt people are city folk. I know that some are country people ..you missed the point , maybe my fault for not putting it across properly. I am fine with anti hunt people who know what they are talking about ...it is the city people who do NOT that irritate me.
I hope that makes things a tad clearer for you?
Oh and your comment 'Posh Horseboxes' is rather revealing , you are falling into the trap of believing all fox hunters are rich / posh / etc etc ..the majority are not. At most hunts the horseboxes are obviously not from the well heeled end of town

My ex brother in law is a game keeper and he says that men/women with guns will cause far more suffering to foxes than a fox hunt ever does ...one person's opinion possibly , but I would trust his judgement rather than some others. He says in order to get a good shot (ie a kill) you would need to be extremely close to the animal , which with a fox is fairly unlikely.

i totally agree with you ted
kelly
Sorry Kellyanne but all respect I had for your ability to put accross a suitable argument has just gone straight out of the window. EVERYBODY is entitled to their opinion but to tell Sam to stop posting rubbish is downright rude and arrogant. You have your opinion and other people have theirs that DOES NOT make you right NOR DOES it make them. It makes the world go round.
And before you start on me yes I do think hunting should stay, I also support all our Farmers, I do not live in the ciry, nor do I live in the country I live in a semi rural area, Yes I do ride Horses, and no I don't Hunt, and yes I own a great big 4 wheel drive, no I don't take my son to school in it, he walks or gets the bus and yes I do take it off road!
If you cannot reply in a decent and adult manner to another poster who maybe has differing views to your own without resulting to playground inuendos then I suggest this is not the board for you.
SORRY most of you didnt understand my message in no way did i mean that sam should not post.
you have your views and i have mine.
im leaving it at that because we could argue for ever and get no where

Schip
How right you are ...it is becoming increasingly common for people to move from the city into market towns and villages and then to complain about various things that are inherent to country life . Not too long ago a couple bought a country house and then proceeded to take to court the local farmer for having geese that made too much noise
Funny old world isn't it?
:D

Wasn't there also someone who moved into a village next to an old church and then complained about the noise of the bells?
Honestly, some people!!
Fiona
Well I don't live in the country, but love the church bells near by and I love to hear
all the birds in my garden and I feed them every day. I feel gutted I have no squirrels
to give nuts to.Nature to me is wonderful.
JUst a quick one as off to work, I would rather see the fox shot, quickly, than see a pack of hounds ripping it apart, a slow and painfull death, with all the guns on the market, and the sights that go with them, a good marksman would find it reasonably difficult to miss, having done shooting in the army, ok the weapons that were used were powerfull but there are still some good guns out there, to use, right ive had my say, im off to work.

Thank you for your reply Diane

Did no one see the BBC news report on the evening of the commons vote, showing the professional marksman failing to kill a fox he had lamped. Unwilling to waste a second bullet he proceeded to kick the animal to death, this he was willing to do infront of the camera!! Yes I think hunting with hounds is a sport that people derive pleasure from but I have never heard them suggest that the pleasure comes from the actually killing in fact their attitude is more of a job well done when the fox is killed quickly. Nor am I impressed by the prejudice against "posh" folk what one earth has that got to do with it, although were I spend a lot of my time the hunting is carried out on foot and none of the people I know who are involved are anything other than very ordinary people.

Then tell me why do they blood one and other .

I dont believe they do any more Patricia, and even if they did I dont see what harm that did the fox once it was dead.
Eco Warrior - Motto "vous serez tous désolé"
But was it not said on the board the Hunt is for eradication of the fox and pest contol not for gratification of the kill
?
And sorry about the faces yesterday I think I done a sarcastic one .
better when I have a GIN AND TONIC when I am replying

It may well have been said but not by me Patricia. Personally I am far too squeamish to kill anything but I have no problem in someone feeling satisfaction in achieving a hunt and kill I see that as completely different to someone enjoying the animal having a tortured death as for instance badger baiting.
Eco Warrior - Motto "vous serez tous désolé"
That is a different category altogether, But what i am saying is if you blood yourself you are enjoying killing.if you shoot a fox, say a farmer! will he blood himself for a job well done. {I don't think so] Then you have dog fighting what utter rotters they are.
cock fighting people put this all down to enjoyment and to others it is deplorable .

Hope that face came out right] .

Patricia , I can see what you are saying about 'Blooding' but I disagree with the reasons for it. I do not think that Blooding shows you like killing , I think it is just a custom dating back from years and years ago. The original reason for Blooding someone after their first hunt and kill is most probably lost in time , I don't know....but I don't think that nowadays it is a bloodlust thing as you seem to be suggesting.
Anyway , as has been said earlier in the thread , it appears this custom is no longer carried out so the question is a bit redundant.

melodysk . I think we will just have to agree to differ on this one.
wiping blood of any kind on your body is disgusting.
Admin any chance we can continue this thread elsewhere as I'm having difficulty following the posts now it's getting so big

Thank you!

Perhaps you have been watching too many 1940's films.......blooding went out with the ark!
I guess what scares me the most about an outright ban and the way it is currently worded is the effect it will have on many many lives. Everyone involved in the hunt including the hounds will be seriously affected but also us pet dog owners. I have gundogs who regularly chase rabbits, hares, pheasants etc. I don't encourage it but they are gundogs !! I don't want to walk them on the beach where it's covered in rubbish and debris, I don't want to walk in a town or city where they can't have a run, I want the freedom to walk in the park or country without having to worry that they could be destroyed because they chased a hare

I disagree with those people who breed and release foxes so that they can chase and kill them (if that is indeed true because I have no proof). I disagree with the people who think of fox hunting as a sport because they enjoy the thrill of galloping accross fields and possibly even the victory as they may call it of seeing the fox killed. If horse riders (and I am one of them) enjoy the thrill of the fast ride then that is why we have cross country events and point to point, you don't need to be involved in a hunt.
HOWEVER, I personally consider fox hunting as a form of pest control, seeing hounds do what they are bred to do and enjoying it is for me an enjoyable sight. I don't like some of the people on the hunts who enjoy the thrill of the kill but I can't see any other way of humanely controlling the fox population, all other options I have thought of eg shooting, poisoning and snares could have terrible consequences for the fox and other people and animals including me and my dogs. Imagine walking through the country and your dog's leg gets caught in a snare or it eats some poison

I think if the hunts were controlled properly, licensed and monitored then that could be a good compromise.
Just my thoughts

Its not just foxes you know....how come no-one has brought up the subject of Mink hunting yet?
What about Mink hunting Sam? I don't know much about it.

Oh Sam please start a new thread on this topic I'm fed up scrolling this far down :D
