Find the muddiest spot in the park, with lots of dog poo and roll in it?
Our staffie does this all the time, he can't find a clean area, it has to be the dirtiest? My other dog used to do this but not to the same extent as Sam does.
Anyone have any ideas why they do this?

I was told it was because they are trying to hide their scent from their prey. I think they just like to annoy us After all, you have to bath them, don't you. If you've got more than one it can take forever :D

My old boxer would always look behind him to see what he was going to sit on. Hated being dirty?? When stopping to cross the road he always looked for a clean spot to sit on.

Ralph does this too... and eats horse poo :o. He loves having bath's though so I think this is why he loves getting dirty- he knows he can have a swim in the bath.

My two have it covered between them - Remy (my dobe) rolls in every bit of fox poo and rotting seagull he can find, while Opi (rott X) goes in every single spot of water she can find, nevermind what's in it!  And, they both eat horse poo of course :p  Thing is, they both hate baths, so I know they don't do it for that!

and what is the attraction of fox poo that acts like a Chanel No5 for them?

My Anton loves doing this and then running up to me for a cuddle.  I don't think it's got anything to do with getting rid of his scent looking at the big grin on his face whilst he's running up to me :d

But the other thing, that I am finally glad to see it's not just mine, is they roll in dead things !!

Yes, Anton likes dead things too and it's lovely when he brings a bird or whatever which is lovely and decomposed straight to hand!!  Dogs, why do we have them?

I agree with you all - all my dogs, past and present, roll in anything dead and nice rank-smelling fox poo - usually the sourest they can find.  We then spend the drive home from the woods with windows open, and the driver (me) gasping for air.

I'm afraid to say it but Mack walks AROUND puddles!!! He must be concerned about his white coat! He is good to his mum!!

I think you've been totally spoilt Gillie.  I am sure there are a few of us on here that would happily "lend" you a couple of our dogs to walk so you can "experience the riches" that are the aromas of dead creatures carefully mixed with fox poo.......just say the word....

lol My Irish girls just love a wet muddy puddle, it makes me laugh as they put their heads down and run straight into them. The worrying part is when they coming running back to me with their heads all covered in lovely brown mud for a pet and a cuddle. I'm quite lucky though as where I walk them it doesn't matter what way I go we always pass the river on the way home, so they go in and have a play in there which helps to clean them up. They still smell a bit though :D :D
