I have an aquaintance who breeds Great Danes ,she lives in Spain.Recently she has had several requests for her pups from people living in the UK.Can anyone tell me what is the law as regards to importing pups(quarrantine etc) and where can i tell her to go to find out more about it?

The law is a big barrier, they have to go through the pet passort system which means the dog would be about 11 months before it could come here short of going into quaruntine kennels.
The only other option is to import one as a pup and put it in quaruntine kennels for 6 months but many dogs have died this way and it could cause VERY VERY big problems if the dog were treated in this way before it was 16.5 weeks old.

Three friendsand I have imported a puppy from USA, and he will be in Quarantine until mid July. He came in at 9 1/2 weeks, and is doing very well in quarantine, just have to stopthe staff getting him too fat. I visit several times a week (entails two buses and a two mile walk each way) and one of the other owners who he will live with goes once a week, as she lives a good hour and a half away. the others come down when they can.

It is sad that it is needed, but IMO a pup will cope wll as it has known no other life. Our little chap is as happy as a sand boy when I see him, and is quite as happy to see me go as arrive, no sign ofbeing clingy!

The trick is to find a good quarantine facility and visit it to ensure you are happy with the care and service provided!
