I was looking for information on minature schnautzers and came across a site called sterling minature schnautzers and they said that because of their hunting nature, if they are let off lead they will be injured or lost and an unleashed dog is an unloved dog. I was always led to believe that dogs need time to run around, so what about in a park?. Does this mean a schnauzer must always be on a lead and I don't mean on the street because that doesnt come into it. But I could'nt imagine keeping a dog and not having a game of fetch and chase in the park. couyld someone enlighten me. Minature schnauzers are one breed we are investigting at the monment after losing our westie although we are not planning to get another dog just yet as it is too soon and we are still grieving, but looking at other dogs helps.

Hi
I don't now about minature schnautzers but have border terriers these are also small hunting dogs that would love to run of at the first site, or scent of prey (including sheep given the chance)
But now dogs should be of the lead untill you have trained them to have suficiant control over them, to get them to stop & return on comand. (sometimes they do get further than you want after instructed)
But then you can revert back to long leads & refresher training again to remind them.
I would not like to have dogs that could not go on a free run off the lead
confused
