Is it possible to buy any engraving tool to do your own trophies etc. I have just paid £19 for 2 to be done. It seems a rip off and I wondered if there was an alternative
Straight to the Point(ers)
I've done quite a bit of engraving and the one thing I would say is, If you dont have a VERY steady hand, DONT! any line you put on there, however shaky is there for ever! I considder my hand to be very poor (And after a malt or two even worse!) For good stuff we use a pantograph type machine rather similar to a children's pantograph with a stylus to follow the letters. This can only do flat surfaces so riveted on shields are OK but the curved surfaces are out. The very best results come from a laser engraver but the price of these is out of this world!

I won a lot of Trophies last year (8 from our Club Ch show alone) ending up with about 20,needless to say I didn't get them engraved, I will be happy enough that my win goes in the Club journal for a permanent record!
