Just wanted to share what happened yesterday to me. My parents and grandma came down for the afternoon, so we went out for lunch for two hours. When I got back, Elsa was gone (my 6mnth old BT) she had escaped out of the garden (we have a flap for doggy access in and out of house) I was devastated and, as usual went into blind panic mode, but thank God, someone had found her and used the info on her tag to phone me. The most scary parts about this are that 1. she was found 1mile away, wandering down the dual carriage way (which she had crossed!!) and that 2. anyone could have found her and the lady and her children said that if she hadn't had a tag on, they would have kept her! We don't know how she got out over the 5ft fence, but my fiance spent last night securing every tiny hole. Moral of story, secure fences, and always make sure your dog is wearing a tag with your name and address on it, even in the house/garden! These people hadn't even considered having her scanned for a chip. (which she also has)

As a former owner of tiny dogs & puppies, I ended up putting chicken wire along the inside of my garden fence. I had it about two feet high and then extended down about 4 inches in the ground. Staple gun worked to fasten it. No, it wasn't fun digging a trench, but it really ensured that they stayed in the yard. At 6 pounds, they could squeeze out through a three inch gap. If the head can get through, the shoulders can/will follow.

I discovered that they would show me how they managed to get out if I went outside of the fence and waved their favorite treats at them. It would take about 10 minutes, but the patience paid off.

These might help give you some ideas. I am so glad for you that your BT's back in good health :D

Hi, yes we did this, in my neighbours garden, four of us, a dog and two cats all calling excitedly, treats in hand! (even the cats! )to try and get her to show us, but she is too cunning! we had chicken wire, but she found this easier to climb!, she also started using bushes as a lever to shimmy up the fence, so we've chopped them back. for now we've put a gate accross so she can only get on the long drive, not in the garden while we're out.

Clever girl. :D Have trimming her toenails helped? Or does she jump and use her legs to pull up?

Well, she usually kind of leaps and leaps until a branch catches her, then pushes against it while using front paws to hoist her over fence, then leaps from the top into next door's garden. Usually to see the cat- who we think she must have followed yesterday. clever, yes, naughty, definately.
