My parents 9mth old Cocker came into season, starting bleeding, for the first time yesterday. How long should my dad keep her in for? Also we've spent a lot of time with my parents over the last few days - can having one dog in season bring on another one? I'm only asking because Holly is now 18wks old and very miserable. She's moping around everywhere and is generally being quite hormonal!! Do dogs get PMT???????? :D

Holly loves to have a bowl of milk or decaffeinated tea in the mornings. Will this do her any harm? Does it matter which milk you use, full fat or skimmed???

Nearly forgot - Holly had wet food in her Kong yesterday and it gave her really sloppy poo. She had some tuna kitten food and only about 2teaspoons of it. Is this a coincedence or could it be the wet food? If it was the wet food what else could I use to bind her kong stuffing?

It sounds more to me like the food in the Kong upset her which is why she is miserable rather than anything to do with our parents cocker's season. I would not give kitten food to a puppy - it is very likely to give her the runs especially if she is not used to canned dog food. It could also be the milk that is upsetting her. Dog's can be sensitive to milk. Mine aren't they have a drop of semi-skimmed with their breakfast. I wouldn't have thought the tea would do her any harm.

Your parents will need to keep their girl away from unwanted amorous advances for about three weeks or so. They don't have to keep her in - just away from dogs. Keep her on a lead when out for a walk etc. Bitches do influence each other for the seasons in the same way that us women do. Holly is very young as yet so I woudln't have thought that's what it was.

You can put almost anything into a Kong - work out what is Holly's favourite treat and out some of that in. I seal the ends with smooth peanut butter and fill with cheese, crumbled-up schmackos or liver treats - anything that will get them interested as mine soon get bored with them.:rolleyes: Try beaten and softly scrambled egg - they LOVE that too:D

I agree with Pam - I've never heard of an 18 week old Cocker coming into season, just occasionally I hear of a 5 or 6 months old one having their first season but that's fairly unusual - normally it's a bit later.

Re your Dad taking his Cocker out in season, he can carry on lead walking her for a week or so but I would advise him to keep her at home during the time when she will be most attractive to other dogs (which varies but is usually between days 10-15) As someone who walks male dogs, I don't appreciate it when owners walk bitches in full season where I take my dogs - it doesn't make for an enjoyable walk It's maybe ok if he keeps to street walking but not if he takes her anywhere like a park/field where other dogs are exercised.

Loki and Tinker love a cuppa. (They have been known to steal ours whilst unattended) They have skimmed milk as that's what we have in the house.

buffy my cocker is in season at the moment her 2nd week, i nearly took her to the vets because she was so depressed and started to shake, but then she seem to brighten up, i will be so glad when it is over, so will she, i think she is getting fed up now, it will be nice to see her back to her mad self.
