Hi,
My Dad has a dog of 12 years and for the past 6 months has suffered with arthritis, the dog that is not my Dad:).
Anyhow the vet has advised using Synoquin tablets to help with the arthritis does anyone use these tablets and if so do they have much effect or can any of you recommend anything else??
The ingredients of the tablets are as follows.
Glucosamine HCL ( 99% pure ) 475mg
Chondroitin Sulphate ( 95% pure ) 350mg
N. Acetyl D. Glucosamine ( 99% pure ) 50mg
Ascorbic Acid 50mg
Zinc Sulphate 30mg
Many thanks
Karen

Many people swear by the glucosamine/chondriotin sulphate combination, and there is quite a comprehensive article in this months' Higher Nature health news. I've yet to read it properly and digest it, as it were. Said to work for both animals and human animals, but haven't tried it yet myself. If this does work on your Dad's old dog, you might like to price different sources, as you could possibly get an equivalent quality at a competitive price.
Just out of interest, I use a Horse remedy on our 12 year-old - NAFF joint-Flex - this does seem to help as well.

Karen, I have had some excellent results with a magnetic collar (Bio~Flo). I was very sceptical at first, but have been very impressed with the results. It does not work for every dog, but might be worth a try.

Hi Karen
Our oldies get Cod Liver Oil capsules which seems to ease the joints a little.
I use a bioflow collar as well on my 6 year old springer and it has worked really well. I would definitely recommend trying one.

my poodle who is 12 years old wears a magnetic collar ,i have found it helps her a great deal,as every time she tried to jump up on the chair she would scream in agony but so far so good ..willing to try anything may give the tablets you talked about ago also...
My GSD used to wear a magnetic collar, but after a while the box melted. He eventually had to be pts due to a bone tumour in his front leg. Our Bernese is on a mix of Cod Liver capsules and Glucosamine tablets which my dad also takes. She doesn't seem to be having any ill effects from this.
Hi I have no personal expreience with this but have heard that MSM is a good remedy for it. I think the homeoptahic remedy for it is Rhus, Tox if you want to go down that road.

Karen,
I don't know much about treating dogs, however I have been using Glucosomine for about 18 months now, it has made a dramatic difference to me - finger joint nowhere near as swollen and hips haven't more than twinged for over a year. (major improvement !!!)
In humans at least, it is a long term thing, taking about 3 months to really kick in and only works whilst you keep taking it apparently.
Hope this is of some help.
Alan
Alan,
Thanks for advice, on tablets I heard they are good in humans and animals my Dad has gone ahead and ordered some tablets for his dog so it is now a matter of time for them to kick in and see if they help.
Will let you all know how she does on tablets.

My Lab is on the synoquin tablets and has been on them for about a year now. They seem to do the trick as he has had virtually no problems with his hips since being on them.
