Hi,
Just like to ask if spaying a bitch calms them down as neutering does with some dogs?
Thanks in anticipation.

Not really, it stops the majority of the mood swings (but not all) they get or would have got around the time of their season but that is about all.

In my experience it is quite the reverse, bitches that have seasons seem to grow up, and usually are a bit quieter after a season. the bitches that I know that were spayed young are rather like Peter Pan, fine if you like geriatric puppies. My bitches that have been spayed as mature adults are no different than they were before being done, though both were over 5 years old at the time of their op!

I know a 7 year old Lab bitch who was spayed before her first season - she has the mentality of a youngster still - never has grown up.

Cher, if I remember correctly, you have a GSP?
I very much doubt that spaying will calm her down :-) You have purchased a hunting dog and what we love about them the most, is their zest for life and the fact that they never get 'old'.
If you want her to calm down a bit, try uping her mental stimulation/training and being 'calm' around her yourself. Either that, or get used to 'living on the edge' :D

Good Luck.
