My 11 month old non-castrated CKCS is becoming irritating to other dogs and their owners because of his behaviour when he meets other dogs. He becomes absolutely obsessed with sniffing their behinds. I understand it's important for him to do some sniffing to find out about the other dog etc, but he just goes on and on sniffing, and if the other dog runs away, he will try to run after it, and when he catches up he's sniffing away again.

The only time he will leave the bum end is if the other dog lowers his or her head to sniff the ground etc and then he will go round the front and wee on the dog's head. I have told him off when he has done this (so too has the other dogs' owners) but how can I stop him doing this. It is quite unsavoury! Would getting him castrated help a great deal?

Beany, don't feel too bad. I've had to deal with the weeing on heads... Chienne will sniff a spot on the grass at the same moment that Samma does. Unfortunately, Chienne will turn quickly to make her mark & dull dull Samma's head is still there. Usually, it's a drop & easy to wash off.... just really embarrassing & ucky!!!

But they don't do it to any other dogs and it's just marking spots, not behavioral between the two. The disgusting things that us dog lovers put up with :P

Have you read the poem 'The Dogs Party' perhaps thats why he is sniffing bums LOL sorry :-( on a serious note My maltese Bobby who has always thought he was a labrador often gets weed on as he sniffs the ground and william used to cock his leg and wee on him,as he is so small he always gets weed on,But Bobby also has a disgusting habit of weeing on plastic bags anytime anywhere,if he sees one he christens it :-)
dont think he will change either he is eleven.
Castration could help he could be highly hormonal.Too late for Bobby though :-)

I would have said it is a dominance type behavior, except that that is so unusual for CKCS. I have come across this too but the other way round - my cav is usually on the receiving end! There is a young black lab at training who always likes to stand over Louis then wees on his head, I have also seen him doing it to some of the others (usually only small dogs, he doesnt touch GSDs etc!). I would have thought that castration can help, however if you keep a cav's coat long it might go woolly and tangle more easily after they are castrated as the texture changes.
