Hi, I too have a puppy (age 19 weeks), but at 16 weeks she was clean in the house, night and day. How many times a day are you feeding her and what time is her last feed? What food r u feeding her? Sorry for all the questions, but they are relevant. Does she get taken out last thing at night for a walk?

Regards
Lynn

At 16 weeks she is still very young and sounds to me that you have been very succesful in getting her fully housetrained in the day.
No helpul suggestions but going to admit to something embarrasing. (I'm ready for the criticism!) We had same problem with our young bitch lab X. A breeze to housetrain during the day, clean when left. But at night ! Never whined or got distressed when left in basket in kitchen. No matter how early we got up or even if we sneaked down in the night there were puddles & piles. Tried everything, and I mean everything, for months ! Finally in sheer desperation we took her upstairs with us figuring we could at least hear her stir & take her out. Dog entered bedroom, gave sigh, lay down on mat, went to sleep and slept whole night through! Dog slept upstairs after that. Perhaps we were lucky but she knew her place in the family & accepted and loved our 2 daughters born when she was 5 & 13. I worried we had done the wrong thing but since find many more owners resought to this than will admit it in public!
However, I'm sure since she is still so young you will be much more succesful than we were. Good luck.

We had the sme problem with our CKCS, just at night, so we too resorted to bringing him upstairs, hoping we would be woken by him moving off his bed before he messed on the carpet, but he slept straight through! And four years later he is happily installed on our bed! We did the same thing with our cocker cross from a very young age and only had one mess, so I would recommend it wholeheartedly! And I think they both know their place in the pack not at the top!) as they will happily get off the bed and sleep on the floor when asked, in fact in the summer they choose to do this anyway.

Thankyou. I knew I wasn't alone. It always suprises me that most people only mention their doggy successes. Busby never actually slept on the bed, but I do recall waking up one very cold night to a nice doggy hot water bottle at my feet. Cheeky thing had crawled under the quilt. Ordered her out although it was very cosy ! You have to draw the line somewhere. :-)

Few ideas. Taking it as read that pup is not being fed last thing at night and has been out to "do it". I think the poster said that the pup was in the kitchen. If she goes to sleep and then wakes up to wee/mess are you able to hear if she whimpers to go out? If she's housetrained during the day I would guess she would ask at night (?) Someone I knew used a baby monitor so they could hear the pup beginning to stir and get down there before she was wide awake. May sound crazy but it worked for them. Personally I need my sleep. From what you say she may be performing almost as soon as she is left. Does she become distressed ? Crating may be a solution and also make her feel more secure. Plenty of info about that if you do a search on the forum. We didn't have crates in the "good old days". I'm told they're brill.

tried feeding her last feed at 6pm but now 11pm and weve had two clean nights!
I sit outside with her for an hour before bed but she just wants to sleep so I suppose her age is against us!!!
Lets hope tonight will be her third clean night;)
Cant share the bedroom with her, we already have a 2 year old daughter who creeps in at 2ish:(

Personally I would give a bit of supper an hour before bed this will often bring about a poo just before bed then pup should hopefully sleep through, also I would ensure pup is cosy enough it can get a bit cold in kitchens at night when the heating goes of, plenty of bedding and protection from draughts may help the puppy sleep through. I never have mine up with me cos I sleep very lightly and I would not get any sleep with the fidgeting and snoring. Still, when I have trouble sleeping these days I log on here and count Malamute owners ;-)
