How do you get your Junior Warrant? My friend is doing really well with her Staffie and asked me, but I'm not absolutely sure, so I told her I'd put a post on this site and find out all she needs to know!! I hope I may need to know too some day :D

if you go the the forms page of the kennel club site they have the form to apply for one which also has the rules on as well

If you have a breed that doesn't get reasonably sized puppy and Junior classes at Open shows it is next to impossible to get. You need to win 25 points with your dog from 6 to 18 months of age.

You have to get at least 12 points at open shows, 1 point per breed class win, but there must be a minimum of 3 dogs in that class (or if you go Best of Breed, at least 3 dogs present).

The other points can be won at championship (still 3 dogs to a class) but you get 3 points per class won. This means that at most 5 breed classes ar ch shows count!

I had wins to spare with my young bitch, at Ch shows, even though her show carreer didn't begin until she was 10 months old. she became a champion by 20 months, but was still 2 points (from Open shows) short, as some of the Open show wins didn't have enough exhibits. Foot and Mouth didn't help with shows being cancelled.

I think only one of my breed has won a JW under the current system, where most of the classes won have to be at Open shows!

The KC changed the rules a little a while ago - you now "only" have to get a minimum of 10 points at Open Shows not 12. It's still not easy to get these points - even the popular breeds sometimes struggle to get 3 dogs in a class at Open Shows.

You can ring the KC for a form on which to record your wins, and you must make a note of the number of dogs actually in the ring to be judged (not number entered) of each class won!

Thanks everyone - now she can see what she's letting herself in for!! I guess that as it's our first show next weekend (I'm nervous already!!) and my boy is already 12.5 months old it would be a tall order for us. I'll have to get started sooner.....next time :D
