I am currently trying to write a research proposal based on the challenges faced by editorial staff in the face of electronic and on-screen editing, and how the former will have cultural effects on literacy and the demands of the reading public - if anyone can help me in any way i would be so so so grateful! :D

Hi Cleo....
I'm so glad that I wrote my last paper for my last class last month :D If you need anything specific that I could help you with, let me know. I'll have online access to University of Oklahoma's Library with its journals & resources probably until the end of June.
Good luck dearie :D

Toodles, i need any papers written about the challenges of editing for the internet, and the differences that desk-top publishing has made to editorial function and the relationship between the author and the editor. I also need information on the cultural impact on literacy!! Think i am going blind i've been staring at the computer screen for about 4 days non-stop, i also have to do a report on startegic management but thats only little compared with the monster 15,000+ research project - why did i think that this was a good thing to do!

Tomorrow morning, I'll get online & try to find out something for you. Do you have access to an online university library with journals? If not, I'll email you my id & password, so you can go have a look see for yourself. I was thinking of emailing articles to you, but they're in Adobe & I only have the reader....so that makes it impossible.
Is this an actual proposal for Grant submission or just one for a class to show that you can write one up?
I'm sure that I can find something on the cultural impact on literacy.... I even can give you some of my own personal theories ;-) :P Nah, since my focus was on "Adult & Higher Education" the impact of technology & distance education took up quite a chunk of study :D

Lord, that sounds like a huge amount of work. I really feel for you. My program lacked a thesis. I had comprehensive exams instead. Those were last October. One of my classes was dropped suddenly, so I had to wait until this semester to get my last three credits. So I'm done & just waiting for the "official" grad day of 17 June. Sometime after that I'll get my diploma. It's really nice to be able to breathe & relax again after 2 solid years of classes & study :D

Thank you so much toodles :D. I do have online database, but it's not particularly helpful, and concentrates in the Uk, where i need info from everywhere, esp. US. The proposal is for submission, so it's suposed to be quite accurate, though unfortunately i was only told on weds that my proposed submission was too broad and to cut it back, and have ahd a lot of difficulty locating any info detailed enough for the submission - don't realy want to trawl through lots at this stage ( i've got a whope summer ahead of me!) In fact it's the cultural impact that is proving most difficult, adn believe me your own theories are more than welcome! Oh, and then there the small matter of the new addition in a few eeks!
Thank you again, think you may well have saved my life eek

Cleo,
I've sent you an email detailing how to get onto the OU library Journal databases. Let me know if you don't get it & I'll resend it in the morning when I get up.

Sara,
I have only just had an opportunity to look at the site, and it is going to be really helpful, especiallly on the book front it seems - going to have to go to the british library now to locate them, but that should be easy enough, haven't looked into the articles yet, but judging from the rest of it my dissertation will be a breeze - thank you so much!
Alex

Alex,
Glad that I could help. Enjoy your access. I don't know when your dissertation is due... but the passwords & id should be good through the end of this month. Perhaps even up to 16 June or longer. I just don't know. Good luck & keep us updated on how you're doing :D :D :D

How are you doing with your paperwork, Alex? I know you're procrastinating...but do you have all of your needed source work completed? I'm asking because I know the access info that I gave you for OU library probably won't work after the new term begins on 1 June.

Have piles and piles of paperwork, all gathering dust! I think i may access it once more, but pretty sure i have evrything that i need... I have printed off about 400 pages from it afterall!
Now just need an angle to turn the education slant towards media, but it has been incredibly helpful onb the literacy front - thank you again!
At present am working on the presentation and interim report, the dissertation is shelved until they are done. Plus am trying to persuade lots of people to talk to me, or in other words, hand over all the information they have gained from x amount of yeras in the business and essentially write the stupid thing for me! Oh joy

You have my complete sympathy. Are you going for the equivalent of a Master's degree or a Doctorate? I keep getting confused --which is not difficult to do these days

I'm hashing out the hassle of ordering my official transcript now that I'm tech. finished. What a pain!!! ;-)

Full taught session masters squished into 12 months - not only dissertation but have had to do6 reports, and another 2 to go - spend most of my time wondering what the hell i'm doing!

Oh lord, no wonder you're beat!!! That's long hard work in a very short compressed time period. I really feel for you. It must be very rough.

The advanced progam I did through OU was extended over the last two years, but I've had a class about every six-eight weeks...I finished up at the beg. of March. So this is the longest break out of classes I've had since Feb. 2000. I"m still not used to all the free time yet. I still dream about tests & papers being due. :-)

We prepared by email & 'chat rooms' for a month before the class. Spent Tues-Friday nights 1800-2200 + Sat/Sun 8:30-17:00 for one week in class. Then would usually have a week to do a take home paper + exam. This would be for 2 credits And then another month for some type of project or paper for 1 more credit. By then, I"d be gearing up for the next class.

Some people were double majoring as a "normal thing to do." I was even encouraged by some of the Profs to do so. I was dealing with enough work without adding more, so I always politely declined :D

I wish I could help you out more. But I know a lot of it is stuff that you have to do on your own. I"ll be rooting & cheering for you to get finished :D :D :D :D Good luck, dearie :-) :-) :-)
