It is my Dane's 1st birthday tomorrow , and someone has suggested making her a birthday cake . I have searched everywhere , but I cannot find any recipes. Does anyone know of a recipe or where to find one ?

Why not a cake and a bone?!?! Two suggestions: the first is to make a meat-loaf type cake using oatmeal, cooked rice, minced meat (rabbit, beef, lamb, whatever you like), prepare and bake just as you would any other meatloaf. You can decorate with bits of cooked carrots, green beans etc.

The other is a liver cake that can actually also be used for treats:

1lb Liver (pork liver is cheapest)
2 Eggs
4/6 Cloves of Garlic
Plain Wholemeal Flour

1. Liquidize the liver, eggs and garlic.
2. Stir in the flour until the mixture resembles scone mixture- thick and difficult to stir.
3. Put into a greased and lightly floured baking tin large enough for the mixture to be 1 to 1.5 inches deep.
4. Bake at Gas 4 or equivalent for 20 to 30 mins or until a knife comes out cleanly.
When cool, cut into 1.5 inch squares and freeze. Take out what you require daily and defrost before cutting into tiny pieces.

Happy birthday to your dog and have fun celebrating in a special way!
