By weimowner [gb] Date 01.05.02 20:47 GMT
On the way to work this morning, I passed an estate car with dog cages in the back and Bulldog stickers on the windows, then I noticed the car number plate, it ended with BDG - really made me chuckle! I also saw a 4x4 on the A1 once with all the dog cages etc in it and the number plate, K9 TLC - how cool is that!!

Anyone else seen (or own) any doggy number plates? Or, does anyone own the above number plates - seen around the Peterborough area...

(apologies if on the wrong board with this, I'm sure it will be moved if it is!!)

Byee, Nina.

Personally I haven't seen any of these- they were advertised in the 'Dog World' newspaper..........

D6 GGY, K3 NEL, K9 MMD, K9 XTC, K9 HOU, K9 YOR, K9 BNE, K9 ESD, K99 KBT, K9 HWV, C11 OWW and then of course there are those you can add the 3 initials as you like- K9 GSD for instance:)

It is extremely hard to get a K9 (or even a K99) Reg .... but if you can get them, the re-sale value is a very good investment ;-)
By digger (*****) [gb] Date 01.05.02 21:14 GMT
I think (but I'm not sure) that K9 TLC belongs to Peter Neville or Sarah 'thingy'. (I am HOPELESS at names, sorry :-()
By sam (*****) [gb] Date 01.05.02 21:51 GMT
Sounds like a total waste of money to me, but then I am known as a tight*******!!

At least 2 people in my breed have number plates that end (ELK) but I agree with Sam can think of better things to spend my money on. Still each to there own. Jackie H

I thought K9 TLC belonged to a friend of mine with Flatcoats who lives near Spalding. But on second thoughts, she may have something or other else TLC

Mine is KAT eek

It's S30KAT and my sister bought me it for my 30th birthday. Awwww.

I'd love to have LOK1 though!
By Sarah (***) Date 02.05.02 11:08 GMT
I saw a dog car on the M1 on Sunday with an ELK numberplate.

We always wanted H11SKY, but Sky television owned it and wouldn't sell. We do have R19RNR as our affix is Rigrunner (it's a close as we could get :D)
By 9thM [gb] Date 02.05.02 11:14 GMT
If you ever want rid of it, I'm sure you could sell a number plate like that to someone in the oil industry :-)
By Lou [gb] Date 02.05.02 12:31 GMT
At one of the training classes we take Shadow to, there's a lady with at least three Pyrenean (sp?!) mountain dogs (I think they are anyway!!) in a big space wagon-type thing. Her number plate is B1G DOG :D
By Kash [gb] Date 02.05.02 17:32 GMT
I like that one Lou:D :D :D

By weimowner [gb] Date 03.05.02 11:04 GMT
He he! Some of these are really good, I love the BIG DOG one, Lynn, your Kidmal one would be really good, make him an offer, I doubt that it means anything to him - chance to make a couple of hundred quid (I have no idea of prices mind you!). I always wanted N1 NAS - not doggy just pure indulgence, mind you, like someone else said, I'm sure I could find better things to spend my money on...

...like ANOTHER new purse, Otto has just chewed up my second!!

Nina ;o)
By Leigh Date 03.05.02 11:14 GMT
Someone paid £15,000 for N1NAS in 1996 ;-)
By weimowner [gb] Date 03.05.02 15:48 GMT
FLIPPING HECK! Yes - I do have better things to spend my money on!!!!

Where did you find that out from anyway?

I really really wanted to get my mum W1TCH for her birthday. But it went for £25k. :-(
By dianep [gb] Date 03.05.02 17:09 GMT
I had a car once reg. DNA 58Y. Didn't realise until i'd sold it and it was then stolen how valuable the no. plate was. The woman who bought it had sold it for a £1,000.00 and that was quite a few years ago now.
By LorraineB [gb] Date 03.05.02 21:24 GMT
Apparantly the DOT offered Nissan N15 SAN a few years ago for an extortionate amount of money, (apparantly )they turned it down. A friend has K9 HTL, she has a hotel that takes pets !

I've found that one of the most difficult things to explain to Europeans & Brits.... the concept of "Vanity" & "personalized" license plates. It would make your lives as "doggy" easier if you could design your own plates ... within limits.

I've found your discussion a learning experience. I didn't know that you all "bought" plates. I've always taken it for granted that the license plate "belonged" to that vehicle--- unless it had to be registered in a different State. Then things change a bit. But no biggie.

Most interesting German License plate I've seen & assigned purely by chance ---- "SEX 101" :D :D :d
toodles cool
By Kerioak (*****) [gb] Date 04.05.02 10:44 GMT
Hi Toodles

Most plates are assigned but the DVLA/Government has found another way of making money and this is to keep back plates that are likely to mean something to someone, for instance most if not all of the K9 series, and sell them.

If you go to the NI NAS or CHR 1S links that Leigh and I posted you can look around the DVLA site and get an idea of the sorts they hold back or the old fashioned ones. I think prior to around 1960ish it was up to three numbers/three letters, then for the next 20 odd years it was up to three letters, three numbers + one letter, then one letter, up to three numbers, three letters and since 2001 they have changed it again and it is two letters, two numbers, three letters.

I think the Americans sum it up perfectly.......VANITY PLATES....I mean how vain can you get???????;-)
By eoghania [de] Date 05.05.02 07:55 GMT
Nah, it's for the car's vanity, not people ;-) :D :D :D

I'd like K9 PAW (since my initials were PAW before I married)
I wonder who has that plate & how much it would cost.

I saw K9 OBT (I think) on the M25 yesterday....a friend has K9 SDT which he says stands for 'sled dog team' :D
By Kash [gb] Date 06.05.02 13:39 GMT
One of the directors at work has a Saab 93 convertable and the reg is 'P4T WH'- standing for Pat Webb-Hodges:) Being a director she can afford it especially since they don't pay us much:D :D :D

By Karen.T (***) [gb] Date 06.05.02 19:09 GMT
Im another one who would never buy a private number plate can't see the point of them but each to there own

Karen
By Ingrid (****) [gb] Date 06.05.02 19:13 GMT
There are only 2 number plates I would even consider buying, one belongs to Steve Parish and I don't know who owns the other one, would get banned for life if I put them on here. Ingrid
