For those of you wondering this is a Shar pei/Pug crossbreed for which the "devolopers" are claiming amazing properties.
I hope there is nobody breeding these crossbreeds in the UK but if there was I suspect they would be just the sort of breeder happy to offload an exhorbitantly priced mongrel for a Christmas present :-(

Oh please no...if it wasn't for the link, I'd have thought this cross was a wind-up :-( Pugs and Shar-Pei are both very beautiful but the dog in the pic isn't particularly attractive, IMO.

Guest,
I hope, for the sake of both breeds, that you will not find this cross in the UK. Have you considered either a Pug or a Shar-Pei? Such crosses are bred for profit and, should you find one, you will be charged a ridiculous amount of money for what is basically a mongrel and you will be unable to predict what it will look like as an adult. It could end up the size of a pug with a Shar-pei head, or vice versa, as each puppy in the litter will be different. You could find a nice crossbreed in your local rescue centre for much, much less.

No telling if the one they order for Christmas will look like that anyway like all crossbreeds it will be pot luck and I doubt it will be the saint portrayed in the discription either

Oh my God, I can just imagine what health problems they would have!!  Yuck I'm sorry but I haven't seen one but I'd hate to see what their heads are like.  How does the poor mother cope giving birth to these?

These "breeders" need shooting in my opinion.
By bertbeagle (***) [gb] Date 24.11.05 15:34 GMT
Oh my, another one! Through all my research into this kind of intentional cross breeding recently I also found that Pug x Boston, can't remember the silly name but was another popular one in the US too. First they crossed everything with Poodles now Pugs seem to be the favourite. :-(

Poor Pugs I think they are just so cute as they are why change them????

Guest
Please don't let somebody take alot of money from you for what is quite simply a badly breed crossbreed with many potenial health problems which could cost you alot of money and alot of heart ache. If you pop down to your local rescue centre they will have plenty of beautiful crossbreeds in need of loving new homes through no fault of there own, and to rescue a dog from a centre it cost around a £100 and the money goes back into the centre so they can continue there good work.
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 24.11.05 15:32 GMT
Good grief! I know 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', but really, that's a face only its mother could love. :-(

Here's an advert showing the lack of any consistency in crossbreeds - and they say these are from 5 generations of breeding crosses together.

Oh dear, poor wee things aren't very attractive and not at all consistant!
By nicki-jo (**) [gb] Date 24.11.05 17:13 GMT
oh dear have you seen the list of "breeds" on the left of this webpage?? (link above) oh my god!! what a mess springs to mind. arent pugs and shar peis completely different sizes too? poor mums i say, how risky is that!?!? the world gets more ridiculous every minute!!
By Jeangenie (*****) [gb] Date 24.11.05 17:16 GMT
With all those horrendously-named crossbreeds, they've even got a section for 'Mixed Breeds'. Why don't they just put the others in there?

OMG, just looked at that list nicki-jo. I couldn't even guess what a Labbe or a Cogol was supposed to be so I had a look. Wish I hadn't now :-( Too depressing for words :-(

Why are people crossing pugs with everything that moves? We've had puggles, ori-pei and there is a spectacularly ugly pugapoo on that site...makes the ori-pei look almost handsome by comparison eek

Hiya,

For any out there wondering, A Labbe is a Lab crossed Beagle and a Cogol is a Golden Crossed Cocker!!!!!

Disgusting.

I would love to know if the claim to FCI recognition is true as I doubt it.  Gonna go google.

Found this thread which makes it sound that they have invented a registry caslled FIC

[Link]http://www.forum.dogomania.com/viewtopic.php?p=223731&sid=6bec7193e5379ce8dacf4e018c14a6fc[/Link]

Still trying to find the FCI list of recognised breeds.

No no no no no NO! Oripei are not recognized by the FCI (Federation Cynologique International) who are a reputable internationally regonized Kennel Club. They are, however, recognized by the FIC (Federation Of International Canines) who would register anything if you sent them the money.

Why don't you just have a turkey like the rest of us? :-(
By perrodeagua (*****) [gb] Date 24.11.05 18:06 GMT
I've just looked at the Pomapoo, well they are the uggliest dogs ever.  They look nothing like a Pom nor a Poodle, and where the hell does blue merle come from~??????

Ohh and the Weimadood, a disaster just waiting to happen.  Two breeds that in the wrong home can be hard to train as it is, can you imagine what's going to happen to so many of these poor dogs?

>Why don't you just have a turkey like the rest of us? :-(

The turkey would have less health problems than an Oripei. So far, there doesn't seem to be any idiots breeding them in the UK. I can't understand for the life of me why people don't just have either a shar-pei or a pug from a good breeder rather than end up with the worst of both worlds.

*restrains urge to slap the Guest who started this thread* :D
By roz (****) [gb] Date 24.11.05 19:06 GMT
Oh dearie me. Presumably they sold some of those poor pups "sight unseen"?

And pardon my language but WTF is a "Schnoodle", let alone a "Whoodle"?

Are the people stupid enough to consider buying these dreadful experiments completely away with the fairies? :-(

Can't even comment on how wrong this is, but the link says this is a breed now recognised by the FCI - is this true? Have had a look through my last owrld show catalogues and can't find them, but they are 3 years old now.
bye

"Though heavy wrinkling all over the body is preferred, a dog that is only moderately wrinkled is not heavily penalized as long as it otherwise conforms to the standard."

This was in the description of the 'Oripei' on the above website.  It makes it sound as if they have a breed standard and are accepted in competition, which of course is unlikely as they aren't an accepted breed

I wish the people who are taken in by this would ask themselves if they'd be happy paying the full 'new car price' for a car without any documents or provenance, bet they would walk away in that situation ;-)

Especially if it was a cut and shut - the front end an Austin Allegro and the back end a Rover. I'm sure they would - if they'd have a dog called a Schnoodle, having Allegover for a car is probably right up their alley.

Surely St. Bernerdoodle or whatever claptrap it was has to take the biscuit - can you imagine the intelligence of a Poodle bulking up towards Saint size?

Just seen an ad (on a UK web site) for a Pug xGolden Retreiver!  Apparently, lots of fun, but sadly for re-sale at 12 weeks old - wonder what part did not live up to the expectations :-)

Actually if you re-read it I think it says FI, they've missed the FCI, but to the GP who quickly look at it they won't realise and will think that they're a proper breed.  Why don't the real Kennel Clubs of the countries do something about this kind of thing, like put adverts in papers, TV's etc.  Let's face it they get enough money out of us who breed proper breeds so they can afford it!

It says FIC in the text and then FCI under the recognitions heading, I suspect that is a typo.  They are also recognised by the APRI which when I look it up was "founded by pet lovers for pet lovers" ring any bells that one?

What is it with people and their so called 'designer crossbreeds'? confused
Why dont they just leave well alone, when crossing 2 entirely different dogs could make a drastic difference to the dogs health, temperament etc.:-(
I myself would never buy one of these crosses as I think a whole entire dog of one breed is the only safe way of knowing what you are getting.
