Thanx for your reply's-Of course i will excercise him and let him out to go to the toilet- But i work and when im not there i was worried that he may need the toliet- therefore why i looked into a cat litter tray for him- i wouldn't expect this for a large dog but because he will be so small i thought it may work- I only work 10mins drive away so he wont be left for more than 4 hours a day! I just thought if others had tried and tested it and it worked i would appreciate their feedback

A housetrained dog will avoid urinating or defecating in the house at all - to do so will be distressing.

Yes you can train them to use a litter tray.
