Are you sure you're not thinking of something more like the Bichon Frise?  All poodles have long(ish) faces.

The only types of poodle are:
Standard.
Miniature.
Toy.

If you don't want to emphasise a poodle's muzzle you'd keep the hair a bit longer on it rather than clipping it short.

Are you sure it's a Poodle that you are looking for or is it a Spanish Water Dog or a Lagotto.  Very similiar but their head shape and build are  different.

Try searching for Bichon Frise pictures/images on Google.  I think that is what you are more likely to be referring to.  they are nothing to do with Poodles :D
