Can anyone help on this one please - a friend has just bred a litter of super puppies but since the kennel club would not allow the registrationof the bitch(dam) because she had gone over the time allowed and the KC had told her it was too late), the puppeies cannot be KC registered.  The whole pedigree is KC registered including the sire with the exception of the dam(mother).  I believe there is a registration club on the Wirral somewhere which would register the puppies although I know they would not be KC.

Does anyone have any ideas on this one please - This is a super litter and I feel sorry for her but more that these nice puppies cannot be registered.  I couldn't help her but said I would try to find out for her since she is not on computer.

Can anyone help with this please - would be grateful for some advice

Hi guest
The breeder of the bitch should have registered her initially then all your friend needed to do was after she got her girl was sign the form and send it off to the kennel club...so most probably this dams mother wasnt registered either....I cant understand how the whole pedigree is kc registered and not this bitch..Without kc papers your friend cant sell the puppies as pedigrees dogs...I cant help you regards a Organisation on the Wirral..Did your friend not realise this when she planned to breed from her girl.....maybe someone will come along and advice you better than i can regards the Wirral...and any other form of registration , other than KC is worthless so your friend will have to sell this wonderful litter at half the cost of what a kc litter would sell for...

I'm not sure what you mean about the bitch not being registered because 'it had gone over the time allowed' - adult dogs can be registered, but only by their breeder. It costs significantly more than registering a puppy though. Did your friend breed the bitch? If so, why didn't she register her? If your friend wasn't the breeder, she must have realised that the bitch wasn't registered, and would have asked the reason why not. There's usually a very good reason - the litter the bitch was in was from an over- or under-age bitch, or the granddam's registration was endorsed.

There's no point in using any registry other than the KC because they are meaningless - you could just as well print out some registration forms yourself and save lining anyone else's pockets. The papers would still be worthless, but so would any others you bought that weren't issued by the Kennel Club.

Your friend will just have to sell the puppies as unregistered.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it

I can only say that the ONLY registration body that has any standing is the Kennel Club.    If you do a search (hit button on top right hand side of the screen) for alternative registration bodies, you will see that this situation has been discussed ad nausem in the past :-(

If the dam has not been registered, have any of the breed-relevant healtch checks been carried out?

As others have said she can be registered by her breeder but it would cost a lot more.  Ask her to re-ask the breeder whether they'd be willing to do it, but your friend should foot the bill.

Of course this could be a bitch that was born to an overaged mother(without the KC giving permission) & so can never be registered

Or it will cost the bitches breeder £50 to register her

IMHO this litter should never have been bred

I presume the stud dog owner didn't care that the bitch was unregistered ?

I've no sympathy, really, as this should have been sorted out BEFORE the pound signs started glinting in your friend's eyes. So the fact that she's going to get less than she thought she would for the puppies is tough titty on her part. There are other registration organizations, but you might as well print your own than hand money over to them for what they're worth and the money they will add to the puppy's retail value.

Nothing you can do about it. These rules are made for a reason I am afraid.

To be honest unless I have this all wrong I am confused why you would feel sorry for her . Surely the litter should not have been planned because the dam couldn't be registered. Did the person not know this in the first place. These things should all be sorted well in advance of a mating.
