PLEASE HELP My pups are a week old, I have tried to cut their nails with small dog nail scissors but I am afraid of cutting them to short & making them bleed. It is a nightmare trying to keep the pups still, they cry & make my girl get stressed. My poor Girl is starting to get scratch marks. I really would be grateful for some expert advice. Thankyou

Until the pups are about 2 weeks old normal human nail clippers (I use the ones which fold up) will do the job fine (unless they're a giant breed!). Just take of the little curving hooks. They squeal like stuck pigs when they're picked up, so I tend to try to get them done without disturbing them, while they're lying sleeping.

Hi,
I agree with Jeangenie. We use human nail clippers on our small breed. They are 11 weeks old and it still does the job.
Dont use dog nail clippers....I use VERY sharp manicure scissors. Usually wait until the pups are around 2 weeks old and simply snip off the hook. No need to go any further down the nail than this. I use a little soft(ish) emery board to smooth off any sharp edges.

Do you finish off with a pretty, sophisticated French manicure or go the full hog and have some "nail art" :D

:D :D Teri I had 5 of my pups going to new homes over the weekend. After bathing and getting all ready for new owners I tidied up their nails......after a fashion.....Nail art....Noooooo. It took one hour of wriggling, finger clamping, hair pulling, bouncing, jumping, squirming, you cant catch me ner ner round the living room, just to get one pup done....NAIL ART....hmmm, might try that...now where's me rubber Mallet :D :D

Aw, five gone

Bet you were heart broken (when your inhaler, oxygen mask, iron lung, 3 litres of brandy kicked in :D )
I'm still having a similar battle with Har'em Scar'em as she's affectionately known  and she's 18
months - and lost the puppy breath appeal :D
