My puppy loves people - hysterically so! He's four and a half months old and when visitors come to the house he goes bananas. I've just managed to train him to all four paws on the ground when he greets me but with others while they can ignore his jumping up at the door, when they sit down for a cuppa he will not leave them alone. He totally ignores the 'down' command while he normally obeys (unless we're eating on our laps). he jumps and jumps and generally makes a nuisance of himself so we end up putting him in the next room where he goes crazy whining and we have to talk over him.
Has anyone any suggestions as to how we can teach him to leave visitors in peace after the initial excitment or will he just grow out of it? Thanks!

I'd pop him on a lead so you can restrain him physically when you have visitors - tell them you are training him, and they won't appreciate him jumping up if they were wearing their best clothes, so he can say hello untill he has all four feet on the floor, and if they can't stick to that, then they don't get the reward of talking to the pup! ;-)

Hi.
All my Sams still do this, with all the training, I am afraid its love me love my dogs.
Yes!  I think it annoys some people, so don't come!!
Some people's children can be worse. I do sometimes put them in the verander,
But! if visitors  come unexpected, its just one of those things.
Regards
Denese
