Hi
I have a boxer who is is 16 mths old. Every now and again he chews large holes in our plaster walls. Can anyone possibly give some advice on how to stop this? I have spoken to my vet who couldnt seem to help. I have been told by someone its because he is lacking certain minerals that he finds in the plaster but i dont know how to find what he's lacking. Please help!.
Thanks Michelle

Hi Michelle.

I had a dog a few years ago that did this. What a lovely mess they make ;-) I stopped him by getting a discustingly awfully smelly perfume (one I would NEVER wear myself :D ) and sprayed it on the wall. When he went over to sniff it I sprayed him on the muzzle. That way he got the smell of it AND the taste of it. Perfume doesn't taste very nice, does it? He never chewed the wall again. I don't know about minerals he's lacking, I just put it down to boredom and got him some toys as well. Oh, and more exercise :-)
Life is not a bed of roses but a comedy of errors

Thanks for that Lindylou. We have a spray that we bought from a pet shop to stop dogs biting and chewing but it doesnt seem to be working. He tends to do it when we are work so I wouldnt be able to spray it on him when he starts to do it. He gets alot of exercise already, my partner takes it out before he goes to work then he takes him out for a couple of hours when he comes in from work. I leave the radio on for him and leave a selection of toys for him to play with so I'm running out of ideas.
