Our five year old dog lost one of his teeth about 6 months ago but only half came away and the other bit is still there and turned yellow. We took him for his booster injection 2 or 3 months ago and mentioned his tooth then and they said it was fine but if he ever had to go under general anaesthetic then they would remove the tooth, but it was pointless putting him under otherwise. His breath is a bit smelly but after all he is a dog so I'm not too worried. Will his tooth be causing him any pain? He doesnt seem to be in pain but I just wondered anyway
Hi there,
If the vet has looked at it and thinks it's ok, then it is. The only thing is to keep a check on it in case food gets inside and a cyst develops, which can then become painful.
Cheers,
Patty
My oldest boy only had half a tooth, we have no idea how he did it. We took him to the vet, and he said the same thing, its not causing him any problems, just leave it. So we left it, however it did end up causing him pain. It got infected, so we took him back to the vets, and they took the tooth out. It is all very well, leaving it in, but it will have to come out sooner or later. Ofcourse then when it came out, we then had to write to the kennel club, asking for permission to show him - I was really worried, but it was fine, and they sent a letter out saying I could show him, as it puts him at a disadvantage to other dogs, not an advantage, so there wasnt a problem.
