Does anybody know where you can buy a wooden terrier box from? Do you have to have one made and if yes does anybody know of someone who makes them? ;-) Thanks

Do you mean a box for the Yorkies to stand and show on??? Sorry...am I confused probably!! LOL Well, anyway, we made one! Not too hard of you can put a few screws in and measure properly of course!!!

Lol no, a terrier box is like a crate/cage that you put the dogs in but it is made out of wood, you still see some old 'terriermen :D' using them. You don't see them about that much because metal fold down cages are much more convenient. There seems to be more of them in Ireland than England.

I know what you mean I've seen them....why  do they use them????

I've often wondered..

Im pretty sure they were used when terriers were worked, they were kept in cages and just let out when they had to do their job. Of course they didn't have metal crates then so they used wood. I suppose people who use them now want to keep the tradition going.

A friend in Pomeranian's used to make them years ago, well did the boxes for us in our breed, they were really nice.  I doubt that he still does them anymore though.  I could try and get his contact details if you wish?  He lives Stockport way in Cheshire.

Ooo yes that would be brilliant!! Thanks! :D

they are used partly because they are traditional, partly because they are much warmer & no draghts through bars like in a cage, partly because they can stop terriers seeing each other. We have ours on back of the quad & its a very warm snug place for the terrier.

Hi there i live in staffordshire, yep i know liz cartledge, i will also talk to some of the terrier people i know. Ginastarr, do you know where they get them from? We show in ireland quite a bit and if it was easier to get one there it would be no problem picking it up.

Hi there
Re your request of wooden terrier boxes,  my partner was approached at the weekend by a chap with working terriers to make these boxes.  This guy has a Fayre organised on 4 Oct in Rake nr, Petersfield Hants, we will be there with sample boxes, with a plan to take orders.

Hope this is of use to you.

Regards
Jill
