Has anyone any experience of problems using Frontline? The reason I ask is that I have used the "spot on" treatment and my dog was always ill for two or three days after, so I stopped using it after two attempts. Yesterday my friend used Frontline spray on her golden retriever and today it appears to be off colour. She is now worried as someone told her that two elderly dogs have died from effects caused by using Frontline. So as you can imagine she is worried, i told her I'd ask around, as I have not heard anything bad about the spray. I did tell her I would not use the "spot on" treatment, (as I have explained above why). My vet thinks I am imagining my dog is off colour, as he has not heard of any dogs having problems.

Hi My vet has advised me not to use spot-ons on a freshly vaccinated dog/puppy but to delay til 48 hours after vacc. He said the only times he has had a bad reaction reported to spot on's is when the two are done together, he reckons the spot on leaks into the vaccination site - makes sense.

Hi,
I was not referring to the spot on treatments. I was asking about the spray. I only use sprays etc.. when I have a problem, which is I am glad to say rare. (probably all the fox poo my lot find to roll in... puts fleas off?!). My friend Sue has used the spray on her golden retriever and the dog has been off colour now for 48 hours. She has not eaten properly and usually she is quite a greedy dog.

I use Frontline Spray Polly, I like it because it's still effective after "The Flower" has been in water. I've never had any after effects with it. I must say, after reading the do's and don'ts on the old "Exspot" a few years ago i've always steered clear of the spot flea treatments.

Hi Polly

I have just used frontline spray for the first time - well it's the pump action one - on my pup.

I have toadmit I used the very minimum of pumps but she appears to be fine.

I would say that it is one of the better flea products as it is non-systemic, unlike sonme of the others. As a result I have more confidence using it.

However I do believe some animals, like some people, can be more sensitive than o others. Is it possible the dog breathed in the spray?

Hope you find some answers,

Best wishes

Hi Lindsay. Yes, I guess a dog could get some spray inside them by breathing it in. I'm always very careful how I spray but I know I can smell it so I must be breathing it in as well! Frontline is one of the few "Powerful" flea sprays which is safe for a puppy and is the one my vet recommends. (And I trust his judgment)

Best wishes, John

Hello Lindsay

That brought back a memory as well - the first time we sprayed Star with the Frontline treatment. She was totally bewildered, a bit outraged, and kept giving us sideways looks afterwards as if to say, so when are you going to grab me and do THAT again, eh?

It has had an effect on 3 lakeland terriers that I know. They reacted badly to the spray breathing it in. The vet I worked for recommended only the tiniest dab by the tail and collar line, (this is the spray) and I never spray it all over and wet it in the fur .I also dilute it and have never had a flea problem in all the 26 years that I've used nuvan top(same applies, the tiniest puff, not spray as they say on the can) Zeprox, wonderful lemon one for cats, now discontinued, and now Frontline. I steered away from the drops as again the vet I worked with was not 100% happy.

Hi Polly.

I have used Frontline Spray on all of my dogs (including one with immunity problems) and rescue dogs, for a number of years with no problems so far. I have to admit that I only use it once a year at the start of the Flea Season and then, only because we have a cat in the house ! I tend to agree with the others, that some dogs maybe sensitive to treatments of this type. I tend to wear gloves and apply it out of doors when I do use it, as I have quite alot of dogs to treat.
