I realise there are many "lurkers" on this board and just in case any of you are owners of vWD Clear Dobermanns who are in the Wilts area and would be willing to let your dog donate blood to an affected Dobe that may well need it soon as it is "bleeding" I would much appreciate your emailing me.

If you know your Dobe's blood type (Positive or Negative) this would be even more useful.

Ever hopeful

Poor dog :-(

As this has potential to be very serious, does this message only apply to dobes or could any breed that has tested negative to vWD be of help Christine?

Hope you find someone to help.

If it gets too bad I think any dog could help but at the moment, working on the idea that the bleeding dog has very little vWD (clotting) factor then a dog that is tested Clear for vWD has this factor and could help.

The positive and negative side of it apply, if I remember correctly, and I am sure someone will tell me if I have not:
Positive can receive blood from either positive or negative groups
Negative can receive blood from only negative group but can donate to either

The owner does have a clear but it is still a pup and the vet is not sure (yet) about taking blood from a youngster

Christine, did you ever get the help you needed? How is the dog now?

Hi Leigh

Sadly she died.

It turned out she had other problems as well and the vWD caused problems in both diagnosing and treating these. There is no longer any excuse for breeding vWD affected Dobes and anyone who does, is, IMHO highly irresponsible.

I am very sorry to hear that Christine :-(

You are right, there is no longer any excuse for breeding vWD affected Dobes or any other breed come to that. It is a truly awful way to die.

Oh what a terrible shame Christine. :-( I have to admit that I don't know anything about vWD but I'm about to go and look it up.

It's just so senseless that dogs are dying from testable diseases - there's absolutely no excuse for it and if I had my way any breeder that bred without testing their stock for these diseases should be banned from ever breeding again.

I won't tell you what I'd do to those who test then breed anyway - I'll get banned from the board.
