I know there is a specialised part of this site for events taking place and have advertised the eye testing there ach year. I have noticed people enquiring as to what exemption shows are taking place each weekend over the last few weeks, perhaps our moderators might like to consider incorporating an "events/show" listing as part of the message board? Also if a topic which has a specially allocated spot on the board such as the SAR dogs becomes an "obsolete topic", perhaps it should be removed to archives and replaced with topic of current interest which is generating a lot of post? I am not a computer buff, so don't know if this is possible, hence this post.
Actually Polly, It wasn’t until I saw your post that I realised there was an events diary! As most people come onto the forum via the http://www.champdogs.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/forum.pl link which is the way admin recommends, most people, like me would never have seen it! If people are going to use the diary then it really does need to be easier to see!

John, most 'new' people come to
http://www.champdogs.co.uk or .com, via search engines and word of mouth. The links to the forum, the
Events Diary and guided search, are located on that main page
I still only just found it Leigh!

If you have any 'events' that you wish to add John, send me the details and I will do it for you

Members of the main site are welcome to add their own events.
As you said Leigh, new people come to this site via word of mouth or as a result of a search. The problem then is that they then put the page in Favourites so they can go straight back to it. I wonder just how many people ever use the other features? Certainly I don’t!
We run our eye testing sessions strictly as a service to breeders and if we are lucky at the end of the evening we will just about cover the cost of our Fish and Chips and that is all. In fact on a couple of occasions we have got close to falling into a loss. In the past as you know, we have put the dates on the health board but as I how understand it that is not allowed. Still, it is in the dog press so most people will see it.

I don't know where you got your information from John, but I have just looked and there are several posts on the 'Health' forum detailing your eye testing sessions
As I have already said, members are
encouraged to add their dog event details to the diary. Polly is a member, but if she doesn't want to add the details, send them to me and I will do it for you. It is not a problem.
Leigh, a bit off topic, but as well as breed profiles on the main site, how about some more general articles? It would be handy to refer guests to articles like "How to find a reputable breeder", "Breeding your bitch" etc, etc. I know that there is plenty of stuff like this on the web, but many of them are from a US perspective and Champdogs shows up well on the search engines. Maybe articles like that could be written by collaborative effort to get a better overview and spread of opinions too?

What about under Frequiently asked questions, or is that for technical info about the board?
Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.
Or maybe a Library section Brainless? I was involved in a Northern Irish politics discussion board before it was mail-bombed out of existence, and it used to have a Library section. All the articles were vetted for quality and relevance (as well as for incendiary potential

) before they went on-line, and much of the best stuff was produced by small groups working together. Over a period the forum built up a very useful collection.

I like the idea of the "where to find a reputable Breeder" and such like topics you have suggested. Frequently over the past year or more, I have replied to enquiries about flatcoats, and having gone to great lengths to explain very simply the BVA schemes and how they work. Also I always advise potential puppy buyers to ask to see health certificates prior to buying a puppy, among other things. It would save me a lot of "typists finger ache" to be able to direct them to a specially set page.
I have put things in the diary previously, but had not realised I had not put the eye testing in this year! Oooops!
