Hello,
Been looking at Champdogs for a while now and have got loads of useful advice from it, and have finally joined.
I have two ex-racing Greyhounds - Bedlem Black Nikray Ebony - 5.5 year old black male and Bedlem Blue Nikray Stamford - 4.5 year old blue female (now both KC registered).
So much for retired though - Ebony is currently doing his KC Good Citz., won BIS at a Comapnion Dog Show (debating entering Crufts Special Racing/Coursing class with him), he is waiting to hear back about his PAT dog registration, may become a temporary blood donor for a very ill local dog (greyhounds are canine universal donors), and him and Stamford are about to start swimming at Greyfriars for fun - they both swam when racing and loved it.
I feed Stamford Burns Active (24% protein and 20% oil) as she is always a bit on the skinny side even by Greyhound standards, Ebony gets 1/3 Burns Active and the rest normal Burns (as too much protein gives him bald thigh syndrome for some reason), some days they have raw veges and meat (prize choice) added to the Burns along with raw eggs, tuna in oil, etc. I used to cook for them and give bread, pasta, etc etc, but it really did take ages - raw food is so much quicker. They both get Laske Kronch Salmon Oil for their EFAs and some Royal Jelly, and some Chondritin, MSM and Glucosamine. Poo disposed of using fragranced nappy bags in the dustbin following careful inspection by moi!
Two walks a day for ~20 mins although three days a week we go on a 3 mile walk and a good run about in a field with my neighbours Staff pup and two collies. The rest of the time they recreate their glory days at Walthamstow on my lawn....well mud patch more accurately - serioulsy thinking about that fake grass stuff!!!
Any bathing is with Quistel shampoo and conditioner and I use the spray on them both, and they get their teeth cleaned every day with a toothbrush and bones and chews, with a going over with a descaler once a week, quick groom and massage with a hound glove everyday and a full groom including nail filing/trimming, ear cleaning, etc, once a week.
Thats about it - I work one day a week as a kennel hand too at a retired kennel. I was actually a Doctor at Guy's Hospital London, but gave it up to be a full-time dog mum and wouldn't have it any other way now!!!!!

Hi, Welcome to CD

Good Luck with Ebony in his KCGC and PAT work

I have 4 children, 2 of which have left home, so just 2 to go
I have 3 leos, one is 3 in March, one is 2 in a couple of weeks and one just 10 weeks old, all girls. Currently showing the 2 yr old but have high hopes for the youngster too in the future. The eldest has achieved bronze and silver GC but took ill before we could go for gold so I plan to work with her on that next year some time. I work part time at a local school so have plenty of free time with the dogs who, like yours, love swimming.
Look forward to sharing your news and views

A Golden is born half trained, a springer dies half trained. Where are my running shoes ???
