Hi, just wondering if anyone had any experience with Autarkey puppy food, as when we went to the feed merchants the owner suggested this as a good food for Dante my dobe pup. Apparently the protein content is derived from chicken and not veg and has numerous herbs etc. Does anyone know if this is suitable for a dobe puppy?? Any feedback would be most welcomed.

Hi, yes I have had it recommended to me too but havent actually tried it, it is supposed to be as good as premium brands like Eukanuba and Hills but a bit cheaper, they have a website at http://www.autarky-foods.com/

I've been using Autarky for about 8 weeks now and am really pleased with the results.I have 3 dogs and even my really fussy one loves it-in fact it's the only complete he's ever eaten.Their coats have improved and they all look great.I also find it very economical!(I use puppy for my 4 month old and 'summer years' for the other's.)
p.s I used this puppy food because the protein level isn't too high

Hi,

www.csjK9.com foods are a stockist of Autarky foods too. CSJ do lots of "working dog" foods and they are very cheap, some gluten free though. Unfortunately, they don't have enough of a fat content in them - just 10% - to keep the weight on my Mia, or I would've continued using them. Back on Nutro and within a week, she looked better, so it's Nutro for me....well actually Mia, I'm a vegetarian!!!!!! ;-)

I tried Autarky a few weeks ago, on my GSDS and Rott, the veg and herbs appealed to me, but my experience of the food was the dogs, always seemed to be full of wind, the rott was ROTTEN and he was only on it for 1 week max, I couldn,t stand the SMELL anylonger I now feed the barf diet, and a product called k9 complete, which can be bought in either frozen blocks or as a dried complete, which contains everything the frozen one does. Some of my friends also tried autarkyand they too reported the same that the dogs were always passing wind. I dont know if anyone else has encountered this problem or we were just unlucky.

Hi all as most of you already know i now feed my dogs raw,but we will be going away for a couple of days over christmas and dogs will be left with relatives who are,nt to keen on the idea of messing about with blood and gore ,would autarky be okay as a substitute,as its supposed be a natural food ,any advice gratefully received.

Hi tradel, I haven't used autarky, but burns is a good substitute in my opinion. It is a holistic natural complete food, have a look at the website 'burns real food for dogs' I think its called. Alternatively you could freeze daily rations, as it were, so they can just thaw out a bag of whatever you have prepared for the next day. that way they don't really have to touch anything. hope it helps julie:)
