Ok another one of Max's worrying habits he has just developed. He has taken to eating bees stalking them in the flower beds - anyone know if this will cause any real harm ?

If Max should grab one in his mouth, and it stung, then obviously there is the danger of the tongue, mouth or throat swelling, which could cause breathing problems. Just in case, it would be a good idea to bear in mind grabbing a bag of frozen peas from the freezer, keeping this held on the swollen area, and make tracks fast to the Vet!
Better to try and distract Max - perhaps you could play with the bees and let Max watch you safely!!!!

My neighbour's boxer puppy died this way in front of her, l'm afraid. His throat swelled up and he died in minutes. Always be aware of bees or wasps in the garden.
I always keep antihistamine tablets both for me as I have an extreme reaction to wasp stings, but also the dogs - both weigh around 13kgs and I have been advised by a vet that half a tablet will be effective first aid should they swallow or chew on a wasp or bee.

My Boxer has started chasing Bees!
I am going to the local chemist to get some supplies:(
Scarey:(
I use piriton syrup as the dose is easy to adjust and you can squirt it down throat even if its swelling at the time, works really fast as its liquid, my girl had an allergic reation to the new growth of nettles in the spring, I used the first thing that sprung to mind and it worked a treat. (I was dreading Sunday afternoon vet bill, but the symptoms started to calm after about 15min).

I don't grow flowers near the house or where the dog goes, as in the past our dogs have chased and tried to catch bees and wasps.

The most interesting thing about Max chasing bees is he seems to know they may sting him cos he chops them in half with his front teeth first - eats the front half first then eats the bottom half - but they must taste awful because I can see him pulling faces while he's chewing
