How can I slow down my Munster bitch in the ring? Went to Border Union today and she had the wind up her tail, bounced, paced, galloped and moved in fifth gear that it makes the lead so taut, she then pulls and throws her front out! This is what lost her the first place! Her chest is wide (As per the standard, another thing judges seem to think is wrong!) but pulling on the lead doesn't help one little bit, the more you try to rectify the more she b*****s about!

She loves showing and showdays but this is chucking her class wins away and I had such a excellent puppy career with her.

the same thing happened to me at birmingham, the bitch had a wonderful time-same as yours, -the judge gave us 3 chances-in the end he smiled kindly and said-i think she just wants to play,,,,,,,,,,,,,i went the next week and bought a choke chain not a fine show one but a good solid choke , nearly every day i took her out, let her run around willy nilly on her flexi then brought her back and put her show lead and choke on, i stood her up first and then set off, she took off --so i corrected her ---each time she broke into a gallop i did it instantly. within about 10 minutes she had it sussed, and im pleased to say that since her new CHOKE CHAIN , shes behaved wonderfully well, she still enjoys it but takes into consideration what i might like her to do, -and shes won every class ive had her in since,3 champshows and 1 open-it can be done, :D :D

Dizzy someone I met up with at the Derbyshire GSD show did that- she said she gives him a chance but when he starts to mess about- which he did- he kept slipping his lead and running off making her a right plonker not listening or recalling- she put it on choke and what a well behaved dog he was after that;)

Is it just your normal, bog standard, run-of-the-mill choke chain that you can buy from a pet shop?

Is your girlie now back on a show lead? Most Munster folk show on a black leather slip lead and I do prefer that look.

Outside the ring though, most of the time I can run her on a loose lead and she moves beautifully!!!!!! It's wonderful to have a dog that enjoys showing so much but infuriating now because she is ready for CC's but cannot get a class win because of her nonsense!

Hey Lily there must have been something in the air on Sunday because my boy tanked round the ring too. Mind you I didn't help cos I got all excited when I saw we had a big ring which is very unusual and I kept saying to myself I must remember to make the most of all of that space..........lol

I was told that Tigger had the wind up her tail hence the performance at BU. The ring sizes were great weren't they? Not great for the unfit though!!!

It was good to meet you, when are you out next? I'm not going to Blackpool, can't get the day off/not sure about the judge etc... Do you show your bitch, or does she come along for the ride?

Not going to Blackpool either as we're up to our eyes in building work and as we've already qualified for Crufts and are basically doing at least one champ show per month I decided I could afford to miss Blackpool. Next outing I think is 30 June, an open show in Hawick.

I don't show my bitch, she is a well loved well spoilt pet :D I try to take her to as many shows as possible and she gets out for a walk whilst we're there etc. so that she's still involved in it all. I couldn't show her now anyway as she suffered meningitis twice as a pup and still has some muscle wastage to one of her hind legs therefore her gait is not as it should be She was really really ill and nearly died so the fact that she's still with us is more than I could ask for therefore her gait can do what it likes

Yes, the health of my dogs is far more important to me that any amount of firsts in the world, same goes for temperament too. I'm in complete agreement with you about that.

I've entered East of England, in 14 years of showing I've never been to this show!! Also Leeds, Nat Gundog, plan to do Wales and so on.... If you ever need a lift, just ask, I'm sure Tigger and the flying banana would get on?

yes, its a very shiny, slippy silver one, the improvement was nearly instant, after ive done a few and shes learnt not to do it i;ll return her to her show lead and collar, but at the time she played me up i had no control while wearing her posh gear :rolleyes: my hope is that after a month or so of not getting away with it shell do it automaticly. -like you i prefer the show stuff, but needs must,
