Our deepest sympathy to Paula, Brian and family who sadly lost Casper, 14 year old irish setter from our second litter, to old age last week. Its been a week of it as we also lost Maggie, 6 year old irish setter, only rehomed 18 months ago to Sue and her family. Maggie was taken suddenly and unexpectedly, one minute swimming in the river, the next poorly operated on and inoperable stomach cancer discovered, the decision taken not to let her suffer a minute longer.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to both families, it feels like a generation is ending as we no longer breed the setters. Casper and Maggie join your brother and Uncle Councillor and mum and great grandmum Cassie at rainbow bridge - Run Free xxx

How sad to lose two in the same week. My sympathies to both you and the respective families.
I came into this world with nothing & with careful management I've managed to keep nearly all of it

Thank you all for your kind words. Its losing Maggie that my mum can't understand, at least with Casper he was a good age though his family are missing him desperately. We only rehomed Maggie 18 months ago to sue and her family, they already had one of our setters from a previous litter, Elly, and my mum was finding it hard to manage all the dogs while looking after her housebound mother. Now my mum is full of 'what ifs', but i've reminded her what a fantastic time Maggie had with Sue and Elly even if it was only for 18 months, the walks and undivided attention that my mum just couldn't have given her, though she wanted to. The cancer would have happened anyway, by the sounds of it it had been growing for a while.
