On my way to work early this morning I saw a little dog laying on the other side of the road. I turned my car around & parked up. Poor little mite was laying in a pool of blood, where someone most horrid had knocked it down & driven off. It was a Border Terrier. I put it in my padded jacket & took it to the vet just up the road. The cleaner was the only person there, but she kindly let me in & allowed me to put the doggy in a little cubical. I was in tears & still am. I've just been to the vet, but know one has claimed the dog as yet. I know the little mite had died by the time I had found it, but I checked again with the vet just in case. I had this wonderful vision that it may have just been unconsious & all would have been well.

Sleep well little sweatheart, have fun at the bridge, I'll be thinking of you.

How horrible - but take comfort in the fact that at least the owner is likely to be able to track their dog down so they don't live in false hope - also, they will know that someone cared enough to try.

I have given details to our little pet shop too, I live in a small town, so word gets around pretty quick.
I only hope that someone would do the same for my Molly if she was ever in that situation. I couldn't beleive people was just driving around me & the doggy this morning, one man did turn his van around to see if everything was ok, which I was very grateful for.

Thank you. I couldn't wait to get home to my little one today after this morning. Even though Molly had ripped the stuffing out of her cushion whilst I was at work I didn't have the heart to tell her off, I'm just so greatful to have her with me. :-)

How terrible! We saw a spaniel run over by the car in front of us many years ago and we've never forgotten. I scooped him up as the car in front sped off. I wrapped him in my coat and cuddled him on my knee whilst mopping up blood. OH drove us from one vets to another, desperatley trying to find one that was open on a Sunday morning. We lived out in the sticks at the time and there were a lot of miles between each surgery, so I could do nothing but watch heartbroken and helpless, as the poor little thing slipped away from life, long before we could save him.
We found the ungrateful owner fairly quickly though. He had several gun dogs that he'd bred himself and didn't seem at all to bovved that he'd lost the untrained youngster, who had rebeliously mooched off that morning on what was to become sadly, his final hunt.

The owner of 'Little Sweatheart' phoned me today to thank me for finding their little girl. The owner had put up a missing poster at the same vet that I took their dog to & they phoned him to let him know.
Have fun a  the bridge little girl. xx

Although not the news the owner was hoping for at least he has the comfort of knowing his dog was with someone who cared and did their best for her.

A sad outcome but made that little bit easier by your kind deed.
I came into this world with nothing & with careful management I've managed to keep nearly all of it

I know someone whose 7 year old dog went missing and was never found.  They had contacted the council to see if a body ahd been foudn but nothing.  It is better to at least know what happened.

Someone pm'd me today to say that Little Sweatheart, Brook was on the doglost website. I took a look & there was a wonderful picture of Brook, she was only 18mths old, the same as my Molly. She had been lost for 15days before I found her. I'm feeling so bad I didn't find her earlier. I'm know I'm being silly, but I hope she wasn't too scared in those days away from her owner. Perhaps dogs don't think like us humans, I do hope not. It has affected me more today than the day I found her. I think now I know more about her it's hitting home. Goodness knows what Brooks owners are going through now.
I do feel a little better that I have posted to you all, only dog lovers know the pain that these little lovelies put us through.

Run free Little Sweatheart Brook, so sorry I didn't find you sooner. xx

Don't beat yourself up, you did the best that anyone could expect of you and you cared.

Do you wonder though where had she been all that time. For a little dog to be wandering about on roads like that, and after being missing for 2 weeks? It makes me wonder if she had been stolen and had only just managed to get away and was trying to get home? Was she found near her home or miles away? I'm Just curious and neurotic about dog theft.

I found Brook about 10 miles away from her home in Standon.Standon to Buntingford is on the A10, it does make you wonder how she got there, but I must stop thinking about it now. It eats me up inside that she was scared, but you're right, I must not beat myself up over it all, the owners are feeling much worse than me.
I also have been thinking how these dogs to escape from their homes, is it a mad dash for the front door or a hole in garden fence. I know dogs are also taken from back gardens. I make sure all my fences are intact in the mornings & my very high side gate is securly bolted. Still scary.
Thanks
Anne & Molly

Try not to beat yourself up over it, you did all that you could to help the little soul.

Take care.
