i know this isnt a cat forum, but my oldest cat got run over today.
Skye was only 8 years old and was so fiercely independant, and so stuck up!!
When we moved house last year, we realised that the road outside, although not a particularly busy road, was very fast dispite the 30mph limit. we tried keeping the cats in, but Skye was not having it and boy did she let us know!
She was my first Maine Coon and used to love nothing better than cuddling up with my old collie, Bute. they worked as a team and Skye used to go raiding the bins and bring back scraps for Bute.
When we lost Bute a few years ago, she was lost without her and used to follow me around.
I'll miss you Skye

So sorry you lost her today.

Her life may have been shorter than you had hoped for but she obviously wouldn't have been happy being an indoor cat.
I came into this world with nothing & with careful management I've managed to keep nearly all of it

Oooh Im sooo sorry to hear this!!
We lost our Family Maine coone (my mums) recently...and I absolutely know what a gap the larger than life character of a Maine coone leaves!
Like you say, very independent!! Im baised but oh theyre a special breed...and I still miss with heavy heart that 'Maine coonism' of the head butting you for a stroke

Thinking of you xxx
