Previous Next Up Topic Dog Boards / Rainbow Bridge / lymphatic cancer - love them as if every day is their last
By tedsally [gb] Date 29.04.07 20:30 GMT
I lost the love of my life this week - sally, my 6 yr old welsh terrier, a week ago she was running and playing as always, she was put to sleep in the early hours of thursday morning.
last monday she seemed to be panting heavily,so off we went to the vets, the vet noted her lymph nodes were swollen and took blood and x rays, the x rays were clear and, breathing a sigh of relief i listened to the vets explanation of possible infection.
Tuesday her panting worsened,i returned to the vets and was given antibiotics.
Wednesday she lay almost motionless all day, giving me the usual kisses when i hugged her, at 6pm the vet rang to say her blood was crawling with cancerous cells, lymphatic cancer of an aggressive nature was raging through her and we should consider having her put to sleep.
She went in the early hours.
Part of me died with her,i'll never see her grow old...or come to me carrying her lead wanting to go out ....or wake me up .....i'm utterly heartbroken....as the title say's....love them as if each day is their last....as it was for my little girl...

Very sorry to hear of your loss Frank. So many of us understand the pain you are in at this time. There are very few words that give comfort at this time, but our thoughts are with you and your family. Run free from pain Sally.

Tragic. Take heart in that she is no longer in any distress and that you will meet her again!. Sleep well little girl.

sadly i completely understand you feelings, i lost my girl to acute leukemia on thursday, completely out of the blue,  she was only three, luckily they did not suffer long, and are now pain free, what hurts now is us, but i would rather i hurt than my baby girl, you are so right, love them every day to the hilt who knows what tomorrow brings, all we can  do is love them for whatever time we are given them, my heart goes out to you

So very sorry to hear you lost your Sally. I've got Welsh Terriers, including a girl of 6 and reading your post I can imagine exactly how you feel.  Such stoic little dogs, up and at it from morning till night.

My thoughts are with you and I'll remember to give my dogs an extra special hug tonight.

That is so tragic, your post so sad and so true. We can't help you here, but have all been where you are now. It IS better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all - despite the pain.
