I had a problem a few months back with my 18 month old gsp being aggressive towards other dogs after being used at stud. I put him on vallerian compound and gelsemium from dorwest herbs and coincidence or not he was much improved. I (foolishly) stopped this and his condituion has returned but in adifferent way. Although I have put him back on the stuff it does not seem to have had any effect. Now he is okay about 80% of the time but at others he will start to look scared, shiver badly and start growling. we do have another male gsp at home who was a rescue. we have had him about 5 months and they were okay but he only has to glance over and it is enough to start off the growling. He seems so intimidated by some other dogs and his first line of defence seems to be attack.. it is harder and harder to relax when at shows. When on the bench he looks really worried about the other dogs gpoing passed and will start to growl. Any ideas. He was never like this as a youngster and is fine with people.

I'll watch this thread with interest too because my HV bitch started to show nervous aggresion when she reached the same age as your dog - but her's was directed at two particular breeds of dog (boxers and GSDs) and she still flies at them if they come too close to her.

Has your dog ever been attacked by another dog?
I'm wondering if he is being defensive - does he just
growl or will he attack?
